“Idyllic setting, rural but so convenient to city, towns, fantastic places to see, above all superb quality”
Reviewed 10 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We were drawn by the location as we wanted to be near to York and yet stay in the country. The website was most informative and, following our glorious week there, I now know that the photos absolutely captured the beauty of the place. The accommodation was perfect and fitted-out to the highest standard. Extras, such as wonderful local bread, fabulous granola from a local supplier and the local eggs were so welcome; we also were delighted with the barbecue we could use in the lovely enclosed courtyard. We toured lots - it's a terrific base - but LOVED to come back to this wonderful place.

“Happy new year at platform 1.”
Reviewed 5 January 2013 for a stay in December 2012

We were really looking forward to visiting platform 1 after such a busy Christmas and we were not disappointed. We were greated by the owner Anne on arrival, who's correspondence was excellent. Anne showed us around the building first of all and then left us to settle in.
There were lots of thoughtful touches. The Welcome basket was delicious and everything was of a very high standard throughout, with modern gadgets and appliances alongside a cosy traditional charm. We loved having the use of the log burner.
Trains do pass by from time to time but the walls are 25inchs thick and you can barely hear them.
There are plenty of things to do near platform 1, one of them being Castle Howard which is just stunning and only 5 minutes away. You can admire the House or take long walks in the grounds, beautiful even in December.
Platform 1 is such a lovely and different place to stay and we would definitely recommend Platform 1 to family and friends, and we would definetly go back.

“Just the ticket!”

We have just returned from a delightful week at Platform One, where the incredibly welcoming and attentive hosts have created a perfect balancing act: a luxurious but relaxed retreat offering all mod cons - even straighteners! - in a unique slice of history. A fascinating house set in gorgeous secluded gardens, Platform One is a tranquil haven that's on the doorstep of a host of attractions. Just the ticket!

We stayed at Platform 1 with our 9 year old son who was enthralled by the trains and wildlife here.

Anne went out of her way to ensure that we had a lovely time and the converted station was steeped in history and yet fitted with every possible luxury.

We'll certainly be back!!
