Good food but away from centre of town. Tiny portions are very nice but pricey. Had goose breast and was 4 strips 50mm x 20mm x 3mm so a pretty small goose, wife had duck which was even smaller

Very good meal almost 5 stars . This is a very nice small restaurant hidden away in York. We were very excited about the evening , this is a bit unlike other michelin star restaurants we have visited. The dining is a bit more informal , this is good as some restaurants can be a bit stuffy . The food was very good , you could tell a lot of effort had gone into the preparation. The portion sizes we small , i understand that in restaurants of this quality serve small very high quality food , but there comes a point where the portion size is too small. We will go back , the price of the meal is very good value , just a little more on the plate please .

Food as usual excellent (Carl cooking). For a restaurant of this standard there
needs to be much more attention to professionalism and training of the waiting staff.
Reaching across diners to place plates, not anticipating , all the sorts of little things which fine dining should have as part of the ambience. The owners need to put some time into more and better training.

We visited Melton's for the first time and decided to go for the taster menu, with accompanied Wine flight.
Every course was perfectly balanced with the correct portion size. The wines were expertly matched and explained in great detail. The restaurant itself has a small bistro feel about it, not too pretentious. We have eaten at high end Michelin Star restaurants and this is up there with the best of them.

Thank you guys for a great Birthday meal.

I had a lovely meal and excellent service at Melton's. I ordered their early dinner three course meal. The starter was hand dived scallops with pomegranate and raisin dressing and cauliflower puree. It was divine and melted in the mouth. The main course was the duck breast with potato and leg confit terrine. Another fantastic dish and the terrine was delightful. I finished with the miso glazed quinze dessert with beurre noisette ice cream and pecans. I couldn't detect any miso and the quinze was fine. The ice cream and crunchiness of the pecans were great touches.

Melton's has a cozy atmosphere and wonderful ambiance and is a walkable distance from the York Castle area. Highly recommend!
