“Mothers Day Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2012

With this hotel only being a 2 star I wasn't sure what ro expect. All I can say is that I wasn't disappointed. The hotel is excellent. Friendly staff, nice decor, spacious and immaculate room and we even had tea and coffee making facilities as well as toiletries provided. We were booked in for breakfast which didn;t disappoint either. The food was plentiful and nice and hot. For the price we paid for the hotel it was excellent value for money and I will defintately stay here again. I have two children who are both at university in york so this is an ideal base as it is so central for everything. Just wish I had Known about it a couple of years ago as I am a frequent visitor to york.

I was going to book the Premier Inn where we stayed on our last visit when I found this hotel. It was half the price and just over the bridge from the city. The Minster is 11 minutes walk away and the Shambles 7 minutes. The hotel fronts onto the River Ouse where a secure car park is located under the building (£10/ night). The main entrance is located at the side of the building up a rather steep flight of steps so check if there is a need for disabled access before booking. Inside the hotel is simple but well decorated with hardly any marks/ scuffs to the paintwork. It maintains a very clean impression along the corridors which is also apparent inside the rooms. Our room was at the top of the building on the street side which is not a main road and proved very quiet at night. The room was a good size with adequate hanging and drawer space and very clean. The bathroom again was very clean with no signs of damage or mould. The king size bed provided us with an excellent nights sleep. Full English breakfast buffet is located in the downstairs restaurant next to the bar (river views from the bar). Food was buffet OK nothing special. The young staff were very efficient in ensuring that tables were cleared and relaid promptly whilst keeping an eye out for patrons arriving for breakfast. Check in / out was friendly and efficient. We decided to have a quick walk around the walls after breakfast and although we had checked out at 9:30 (latest 11:00) we did not return to collect our car until 12:00 and there was no problem. Top marks Would definitely stay here again

On our week in York we stayed at the Queens Hotel. The Queen’s Hotel is perfectly located on the River Ouse. Just over the bridge and you in the centre of York. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room unfortunately did not have a view of the river, however, the room was clean and comfortable. Buffet Breakfast very good, as much as you can eat, and we did not require much to eat until evening meal, which was also good.Warning if parking in the hotel underground car park ensure that there are no flood warnings as the car park is known to flood!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river

We bought this as a Christmas gift for my mum and dad through Superbreak, it was one of their mystery hotels. They stayed here 3rd March and said they couldn't fault the hotel at all. Everything was clean and tidy and well looked after. They said that the hotel staff were nice and polite and welcoming. Tea/coffee and biscuits in the room and the views over the river were lovely.

Breakfast was a buffet and they said that there was an excellent choice of just about anything you could want.

It was ideally located for shopping and sightseeing. They would definitely recommend it and were very happy with their christmas present.

We could not find fault with this hotel, its location is perfect. Room we had, with a river view was large & airy. Bed was very comfy as were the pillows. We had tea/coffee making plus biscuits in room. Food was excellent, everything was hot and nicely presented. We found the staff friendly enough and nothing was too much trouble for them,. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: request a river view room.
