Owner description: The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is located on the outskirts of the City of York within easy reach of the City centre. The Museum welcomes family visitors, with lots of things to keep everyone in the family entertained. We are also pet friendly, so you won't need to leave your four legged part of the family home alone. Authentically based on an original World War II Bomber Command Station, this unique history museum is filled with a great combination of original buildings to explore, including the restored Control Tower and more than forty aircraft exhibits, from early aviation biplanes to our unique Halifax Bomber "Friday The 13th" all the way to modern Cold War military jets such as the Victor, Nimrod and Tornado jet fighters. Our regular Thunder Days are always popular as a great family day out and our NAAFI cafe has a range of snacks, drinks and meals for everyone. Our guides are on hand to help you explore the museum. They are all volunteers and love to read your reviews!

I have been a few times and i am disappointed at the lack of aircraft which are added. Maybe 1 every 5 or so years.

Value is ok, staff are friendly but they need to show more passion and love do the management.

Axing the airshow was a huge mistake.

I would like to point out that the Yorkshire Air Museum is not a government funded organisation, and is in fact a charity. Since 1999 the Museums aircraft collection has expanded from 17 to 46, an acquisition rate of approximately 2.5 aircraft per year. The focus has always been to lovingly restore and maintain a good quality collection and not simply acquire for the sake of it. I would like to point out that the Air show was run by a neighbouring separate organization and not the Museum.

We took the kids on the residents free weekend. It took us just over 1 1/2 hrs to go round which if we'd paid full price of it, I don't think we would have felt we had got value for money. Some great displays to look at but I would recommend for people with kids older than ours as they got a bit bored

The Yorkshire Air Museum is the largest air museum in the North of England containing 19 exhibitions, 46 aircraft, 5 of which are live now including some propeller driven and a selection of military and emergency vehicles. The average time a visitor spends at the Museum is 3.5 hours.
The Yorkshire Air Museum is competitively priced, tickets are: children £4, adult £8, concessions £6 and a family ticket is priced at just £22 (2 adults and up to 3 children). It is worth noting in relation to this post that under 5’s are free!
There are a number of activities to engage children such as cockpit sections to climb in to, gunnery simulators, design your own aircraft simulator, a flight simulator (subject to height restrictions) and not to mention lots of outdoor space in a secure environment.

Really enjoyed the Museum, larger and more extensive than I thought. My Father was in the RAF during the war so was able to fill in some gaps.

There is plenty to see and being an original hardly altered airbase makes it even more interesting. Its largely run on a tight budget and by volunteers so dont expect lots of extras and in winter there is little heating so the hangars and huts are very cold.

Would have liked to have got closer to the Halifax, I guess in the summer there is more room in the main hangar as planes can be wheeled out. However there is still lots to see and the volunteers are full of interesting stories.

I took a relative who was in the RAF for many years, and his father before him. On display was an aircraft from his father's squad. and planes that he had worked on. A great day.
