Description: Green’s multi award winning Restaurant & Bistro has one of those enviable, picturesque settings, nestled close to the busy fishing harbour of this charming, bustling coastal town in Whitby, North Yorkshire, and the stunning backdrop of the North York Moors.Rob Green has created a winning combination at Green’s Restaurant & Bistro by offering two distinct dining experiences - a buzzy Bistro atmosphere downstairs, and the more formal - but equally welcoming - 'Upstairs at Green's'.As National Seafood Chef of the Year, Rob offers a menu that is attentive to the surrounding bounty from the coast, and with his daily contact with the best local seafood suppliers and skippers of the local trawlers, he can ensure a menu that boasts the best of ‘The Catch of the day'Prime local meats and game are also a speciality, and by making the most of the landscape as his larder, with its abundance of fresh local produce, means that Rob changes the menu frequently to offer you “the best of the day”. This has been instrumental in Green’s Restaurant & Bistro being recognised as not only one of the finest restaurants in Whitby, but one of the finest restaurants in North Yorkshire.

Whitby has many well-known excellent places for food and drink, especially if you like everything from good old Fish & Chips to the more sophisticated fish and shellfish menus. Green's of Bridge Street is certainly one of them, where you can enjoy the traditional Fish & Chips (served as a classy presentation), Mixed Shellfish Linguini, Moules et Frites, or Slow-roasted Belly Pork with unusual but delicious accompaniments.

Bistro downstairs, comfortable restaurant upstairs. We would go again.

We were unable to book this restaurant as the phone was permanently engaged; however we were able to get a table probably because it was a Wednesday night. We started with langoustines, which were excellent and served as very generous portions - about 6 each. My wife had the steak and I had seafood linguine, followed by a shared cheese board. All of the food was excellent and we were also able to see it being cooked as the kitchen is on open view. However, this led to the main problem for us. Green's have the world's noisiest extractor fan which tended to drown out conversation. we like our restaurants to have a "buzz" about them, but not when it comes from a loud machine in the kitchen. This was a shame because the service and food are excellent.

This was our first time to greens, we have been to whitby many times, and said we would go here for a special occasion. I know there are mixed reviews for here, but were recommend to go by my sister whom has eaten here before. The service was average, nothing flash, courteous but not memorable. The wine choice was good, and we had a very nice bottle of wine. The menu looked enticing but the dishes did not live up to thier descriptions or price. The starters were good, but the main courses were disappointing. I thought my main course was terrible, fish overcooked, scallops were tiny, accompaniments were bland and tastless, and I actually left half my meal, which is very unlike me. We decided not to stay for dessert, more for the fact we had been disaoppointed with our main course. Maybe we just visited on a bad night,or chose the wrong dish, as i am sure they can do better, but it was our special occasion and now memorable for more negatives than positives. give it a try, this may be a one off, but dont expect the world. I think that there are far better offerings in and around whitby currently with more attention made to service and a better consistency in the quality and standard of food at a good price.

We enjoyed an excellent seafood meal in Greens wash down with copious quantities of Chablis. Perfect. the staff were friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble despite our large and somewhat boisterous party. Thankyou.
