“Very enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 7 March 2012

We stayed here for Valentine's. The room was wonderful with lots of space and a four poster bed. The hotel has lots of old world charm and character. The staff were friendly and the food was very good. Only criticism was that the bathroom needed a complete revamp - tired and old. Would like to go back in summer to enjoy the surroundings.

Room Tip: We had the corner suite on the ground floor with a four poster - lovely

I booked this weekend break for myself and the wife to recharge our batteries at the end of a long winter . It was booked off the hotel website for £79 per night for an executive room with breakfast . The hotel is outside of Whitby at the end of a winding country lane and first impressions were good as we parked up . The receptionist was frosty and we were shown to our room with only the times for breakfast being mentioned . We were not invited to complementary teas or coffees unlike other guests who we spoke to.The room and hotel were excessively hot but I suppose this was better than being too cold .The room was a little cramped but the bathroom was top notch although we would have preferred to have the choice of a bath rather than just a shower . We decided to dine in the hotel for the first night and settled for a bar meal of sirloin steak ,chips and garnish which was adequate . Main dining menu prices were high and the choices limited . The bar was very quiet so much so that we ventured in to Whitby for the second night of our stay - £8 each way for a taxi . Breakfast was good quality with a decent choice . On checking out we were surprised that the charge for each night was £158 but when I produced the booking confirmation this was amended - a genuine mistake I would hope . All in all a decent break at what we paid but it wouldn't have been worth paying full price .

We have stayed at Dunsley on several occasions: the staff are always very welcoming and the food, though quite expensive is very good. The only downside this time was the very slow service in the restaurant. The hotel atmosphere is quite formal and not ideal for small children.

Room Tip: Rooms with most character are in the orginal main house, the extension has fairly standard rooms whi...

On arrival we received a warm welcome and shown to our room. We were offerd complimentary tea and coffee which was a treat sitting in the bar next to the fire! We were asked if we would like to dine however looking at the menu to find unrealistic prices and not a very wide choices of dishes to choose from. The bedroom was on the third floor very disapointed with a view of untidy farms and carpark not very appealing. the room it self was in need of some serious updating. With barley a signal on the TV and only 4 channels to choose from this was also disapointing!! Peeling wall paper and yellow stained walls was also a put off, however our room was warm enough. Also our friends booked a double room and this was very noisy and cold through our stay in both double rooms there seemed to be an off putting lingring odur!
Breakfast was very good, good choice of food to choose from both continental and cooked breakfast available well worth the £12.50 charged! The bar and lounge were very welcoming and cosy especially in these cold times! Most of the staff were lovely and polite.

Overall i would not rush back to this hotel, however may be worth a visit with its beautifal surrouding and well maintained gardens around hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room

Warm welcome awaited us upon arrival. We booked dinner for the following evening & were told what time we could eat! We had already booked to dine out in town the first evening. The bedroom was tastefully furnished but the underfloor heating was very hot and had to turn it off. The television did not have SKY TV which was disappointing. The bed was too soft so difficult to sleep. The Hotel was clean and cheerful. The staff friendly.

The breakfasts were excellent and a good choice of food available and nothing too much trouble if a deviation of the menu was required. Bar meals were available if required and room service if booked the previous evening (charged). Dinner was good, promptly served and not overpriced. I had seafood Terrine, varied and tasty. My Husband had meat rolls which were hot and delicious, for thr mains, I had a plaice without the pasta as on the menu) which was no trouble. My Husband had the lamb, the vegetables were hot and not overcooked.. A good choice of food on the menu, liked the pre-starter soup and pre-sweet desert, a nice touch.

Car park adequate. Well kept gardens and plenty of wild life! Need a car to get to places as set in rural location. Will return in the forseeable future.

Room Tip: Ask for room in extension as have garden views, turn off heating recommended!
