“First time in Whitby”
Reviewed 24 September 2011

As the tittle suggests this was the first time I had ever been to Whitby and Staying with Val and Peter turned out to be a really good decision. The accomadation itself was of a high standard and very comfortable and the hosts could not have been more friendly or more helpful, with many good recommendations as to sights to see. My sister and I would like to return to Whitby one day and we would hope to be able to stay at Ellie's again.

Stayed here on a two night break with my family whilst visiting relatives who had just returned from New Zealand and found the place to be very comfortable and clean. The rooms were clean with all the little extras and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent with good choice. Car parking also very convenient being able to park in the local school very close to the B & B.

Val and Peter are doing an excellent job with their new venture and we wish them much luck in the future, and I would certainly recommend them.

Val and Pete were wonderful hosts who made us feel incredibly welcome with their Yorkshire hospitality. The B&B was very clean, comfortable and cosy. Ellie's guesthouse is ideally situated on the quieter West Cliff area of Whitby and within picturesque walking distance of all the sights and attractions that Whitby has on offer. The car parking arrangement with the local primary school is an excellent scheme, as parking on the street or crescent can be a bit hit-and-miss. The breakfast was wonderful and provided excellent sustenance for a day of sightseeing :-) I would strongly recommend a stay at this wonderfully comfortable and relaxing B&B.

Just back from a three night stay, chose this B&B cause of the location, and the name really, but we couldnt have chosen better. Pete and Val have only recently aquired the guest house, and as first time hosts are doing a fantastic job.
The House is clean, tidy and comfortable. lots of little extras to make it extra special
Val even presented me with a cake when she knew it was my 50th Birthday (as i said the little extras).
Were already planning our next visit, whether your passing through or planning a longer stay this is the place to be.

Room Tip: There are three floors to this building.

Have just stayed at Ellies Guest house over the Easter period and we were very pleased with the accomodation. We opted for Room 8 as it had a big bathroom with a bath and shower, egyptian cotton towels and nice toileteries. There were plenty of complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate satchets and pots of milk.A nice touch were the ginger and oatmeal cookies and for Easter we got some minieggs which were much appreciated.
The hosts were very pleasant and the breakfast was one of the best we have had. You choose the night before what you would like and we both opted for the full english. The bacon and sausage were very good quality and the fried eggs were cooked to perfection. A lovely breakfast to start the day.
The location was pretty good too, about a 5 to 10 minute walk down into the centre of town. I must admit the return walk took a lot longer because it is up bank but a bit of fresh sea air certainly does the trick to make you sleepy.
On the friday it was really foggy down at the harbour and there were people selling bubble blowing contraptions to the kids. I have never seen so many bubbles and with those and the fog my hair which had started out quite straight looked like a candy floss!
We had some lovely fish and chips and Whitby is renowned for having fab fish and chips.
On the Saturday the sun shone gloriously during the day and we had a ride to Scarborough which had some fab scooters down on the front as a lot of bike and scooter riders visit for the bank holiday.
On Saturday night it lashed down with rain and we had thunder and lightening for a few hours, and a nice touch was at the lobby to the guest house was a tub containing large umbrellas which you could use.
The only issue we had was when we returned from Scarborough we couldn't get into the school car park which we had paid for because the gate was padlocked. We reported this to the owners who contacted the Police as there was also a van parked in front of the gate to the car park. That van was still there when we came home on the sunday and the car park was still locked, so in some respects we were lucky not to have gotten the car in there as goodness only knows what time the other car drivers managed to get their cars out. We actually saw the van owners return to their car on the sunday morning, read a note the police had left them, and then walk away again leaving their van!!

Apart from that I would recommend this guest house to anyone planning a trip to Whitby, for pleasant hosts and good food
