“Nice but a bit limited on a Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

Had a lovely little meal at TLG - however, was disappointed that we could only have the reduced menu on the Sunday. There were soooo many things I had liked the look of when booking the restaurant but then got restricted to the brunch menu. We didn't want a roast which was unfortunate as it looked great. It's in a bit of an odd location but once you're inside you forget your on the main road.

Would like to go back for an evening meal some time soon and sample the a la carte offerings.

The wine and service were great.

“Good Food”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

We had a very nice dinner at The Laughing Gravy. The Shrimp & Haddock Scotch Egg was an interesting and tasty starter. While the marinated lamb rump in a rich brown sauce made for an excellent main. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

“Great little restaurant”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

We selected this restaurant based on the TA reviews and we were not disappointed. We had booked for an early sitting at 7pm and as we arrived early we were seated in the lovely lounge area at the front of the restaurant. Its set up like a home lounge with bookshelves of books around us, which gave us great conversation material. We were offered drinks and ordered cocktails. Unfortunately the drinks took nearly half an hour to appear, by which time the bar area had become very busy. The cocktails however were delicious. I had the Kir Royal and it was lovely. During the cocktails we were offered our table. The restaurant is very charismatic, lit by a ceiling of fairy lights and a fun chandalier.

The wine list was good and the menu covered everything that you could wish to order. I had the duck salad to start. It was a little low on duck and a lot higher on the salad but the taste was lovely. My main was the beef dish, which on first taste was amazing! It did come in quite a rich sauce which did make it quite a rich dish overall. My friend had the Eton Mess desert, which I tasted and that was superb!!

Value for money, this restaurant, for central London and the quality of the food was fantastic! Four people, 2 starters, four mains, 2 deserts and 2 bottles of wine for approx £200.

Will certainly go back for a second try....

“Yummy!”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

We (family with two teenage daughters) booked this restaurant for our day trip to London because of the Trip Advisor reviews. The food was excellent. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and the veg option I chose was one of the most creative and original dishes I've had with wonderful flavours - veg options are usually pretty predictable so this was a real treat for me! One of my daughters had a chicken dish and my husband the burger so we found the meat dishes great too! For the quality of the food we thought the prices were really reasonable. Loved the feel of the restaurant - quite small and intimate without feeling at all cramped. We thought the service was very good, especially our waiter who was really lovely. The owner was very friendly - I think he must have greeted every diner - and as we were leaving he asked whether we had enjoyed our meal. We will definitely go back when we are next in London and will also be recommending to friends. Loved it!

“Great value...food good but very rich...”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

Went here with some friends following the reviews on TA. The venue is really nice, very cosy and beautifully presented. We were a little early so we had some drinks in the bar. When the drinks eventually arrived (25 minutes for 3 cocktails and a beer) they were fantastic. The Bloody Mary was one of the nicest I've ever had but there's no way it should take so long to be served.

We then went through to our table which was in the centre of the restaurant. The service in the restaurant was really good, very efficient and attentive.

The wine list is not overly long, but it has some excellent wines at pretty good prices. We chose a red and this arrived quickly. The food itself is nice but very, very rich. I ordered the fishcake and others ordered the mustard beef and the burger. All of the dishes were really, really flavoursome but after a few mouthfuls, the richness became overpowering. Its a shame because if there was just a little less richness, it would have been perfect.

Pricing is VERY reasonable with our entire meal (2 x starters, 4 mains, 2 x desserts, 2 x bottles of wine, 3 x cocktails and a beer) only totalling £204 (including a 12% tip!).
