Description: Inspired by the rhythm of the seasons, Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge's brings a creative and natural approach to contemporary British cuisine, combined with a rare artistry of presentation. At Fera – which means 'wild' in Latin – the finest seasonal ingredients are transformed with instinct and imagination into à la carte and tasting menus that capture the essence of nature. Likewise, our talented sommelier team chooses wines that are grown in the most natural way, shaped by their terroir. Fera at Claridge's unique ambience was created by the acclaimed interior architect Guy Oliver. His exceptional design reflects the moody, organic shapes, colours and textures to be found in nature.

My husband and I had been at The Cheltenham Gold Cup and were staying in London, not far from Claridges.
Alarm bells should of gone off when we phoned half an hour before we arrived to find they had a number of seats left for dinner.(All our other favourite restaurants were fully booked)
We used to live in SE and a treat was always a bottle of champagne in the piano bar followed by dinner, then it was Gordon Ramsay who headed up the kitchen.
So we thought it would be a real treat to re visit.
We were shown in through a very odd velvet doorway, and taken to our seats, by very attentive staff and shown the menu again by very informative front of house staff.
Our sommelier arrived with a very large folder containing all the wines ranging from £70-£29,000. She was very helpful and chose a bottle of champagne for us, which was lovely.
The menu is sold on being natural and sourced from The British
We are lucky enough to have eaten in some of the best restaurants and experienced fine dining around the world, so feel able to compare and criticise fairly.
The food is beautifully prepared, but was so disappointing in taste.Stewed rabbit, with crumpet and smoked eel, brill with sunflower seeds were all tasteless and at this point we were wishing Mr Ramsey was back in the kitchen.
Pudding didn’t get any better- Yorkshire rhubarb, I Love, so was so looking forward to it.It arrived under a glass closh with frozen ice, so dramatic yes! The 3 pieces of rhubarb could of covered my thumb nail and we covered in dry rose petals. Was like eating a plate of pot pourri. Finally, carrot sorbet, with coffee cake and granola. We didn’t eat the carrot sorbet.
We had an American couple next door who had just arrived and were staying in the hotel so we’re treating themselves, they too were struggling to work out the menu.
This became an incredibly expensive mistake on our behalf, and we will not return.
We googled and read the reviews sadly too late, and perhaps we wouldn’t have gone.
Time to go back to basics and cook good quality food well and not mess around with it too much!

Dear Claire S,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback from your recent dinner at Fera.

I am delighted to hear that you found the staff to be “fabulous” but equally disappointed to read of your dislike of the food prepared in our kitchen.
I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy any of the dishes served throughout the tasting menu. I appreciate that Chef’s cooking is in many way different and am sorry that it was not to your taste.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback,
Kind regards.

I was lucky enough to receive a gift of a tasting menu for 2 as a birthday treat. We braved the horrible weather and had such a wonderful evening as a reward. The staff as always at Claridge's are fabulous and the food was all very tasty and exciting.

What has happened to this lovely restaurant?

From the time we arrived for dinner, until the time we left, the restaurant was less than half full. A very telling sign - especially in London.

Before dinner, we were the only people in the little bar to the restaurant.
The bar-stools there are totally unsuitable and should be banished. Ladies need a step ladder to climb up to them and then the bar for your feet is so low down you are sitting there with legs hanging.

We all wanted G & Ts. There was a large selection, including their own Fera Gin, but most of the others are obscure gins and the only tonic sold is Franklin’s and Sons, which was too sweet and with little fizz.
We had to ask for ‘nibbles’ as none were offered and then we were later charged £10 - for two small bowls of nuts! Really.

The restaurant is attractively laid out & prettily lit with candles. Most of the staff are well trained and efficient.
Having said that, one place at our table was never laid. Our food was served and we then had to call the waiter back for cutlery.

The Sommelier was helpful and efficient and we drank two lovely wines.

The restaurant offers a choice of two tasting menus (£65 & £110) but we chose to have A la carte.
There are about 4 or 5 dishes to chose from, in each course. Nothing on the menu was properly described so we had to ask for full explanations.

We were given several ‘amuse bouche’ but one of them was absolutely covered in pansies and petals, which frankly are much more suitable in a vase or the garden.

Everything was beautifully presented but somehow the food just wasn’t good enough. Their signature dish of ‘rabbit with lovage’ was delicious.
However the Dexter beef & ox cheek was far to salty and nothing much served with it. So a plate of meat is not at all appetising.

A choice of 4 puddings, none of which were appealing. ‘Jerusalem artichoke ice cream’ does NOT sound attractive.
A waiter suggested he give me a surprise pudding which is shown below. Absolutely horrid.

Lovely wine and company and a pretty setting, but a disappointing food experience and very costly too.
