“Wonderful location”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

Stayed 4 nights in this hotel/studio apartment on recommendation from our Australian travel agent. We were very happy with location and quality of room, fittings, etc. however very disappointed that our room was on the lower ground toward back of property, consequently very little natural light......but as we were tourists, we didn't spend too much time in hotel. Would stay again but would make sure I asked for a room facing Cromwell Road. Breakfast room was bright and inviting and breakfast pleasant without being anything special.....I did however feel that it was very expensive at £9.00 per person for a continental breakfast. Had we not prepaid we could have done much better off site.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing street or at least NOT lower ground floor.

We spent 3 nights here in March, The staff were very accommodating and checked us in early and we were fortunate to be upgraded to a very large studio overlooking the main road. We were warned it could be noisy because of the traffic but we were not disturbed at all. Our son's room on the 3rd floor was considerably smaller and the corridor smelled of cigarette smoke, so I was delighted with the upgrade. Our room was clean and nicely laid out, and the bathroom was quite roomy too, although a little tired. The bed was a bit small for our liking, but we are used to this in the UK. A major problem I had was with the pillows which were hard and flat. I requested different pillows and was brought more of the same; I ended up buying a couple of pillows from a local M & S store for 4 pounds each which were considerably better. Breakfast was quite good in a lovely, bright room.

I travelled to London for March break with two friends who are teachers. This is the second time we visited London and stayed further along Cromwell Road last time. We like the area. We booked through Expedia and arrived at 10:00 am Sunday morning, with checkin at 4:00 pm. Our overall impression of this property was very positive, and we would stay there again if the price was right.

Getting to the hotel was a challenge. Since Heathrow and Gloucester tube station are on the Piccadilly line, we decided to go cheap and take the subway in, hauling our wheeled luggage. We did not realize that the elevator at Gloucester does not go down to the Picadilly line and we had to haul our cases up a flight of stairs, helped by many kindly American tourists. Going back was equally challenging because our idea to take another line and switch at a stop where there was an accessible sign failed. Apparently, every line at Gloucester involves at least one set of stairs. Once we surfaced, finding the hotel was easy as it is just several hundred feed from the Gloucester tube.

Getting checked in went relatively smoothly. The first staff person we spoke to offered to keep our luggage until check in (we had no mobile phone so they couldn't call us if the room was ready earlier). A second staff person then suggested, if we didn't mind a room with street noise facing Cromwell Road, she could give us a room immediately. The room we had booked faced Queen's Gate and would have been quieter. After a quick look at the room we accepted. We also clarified that breakfast was included (important to do this as otherwise we would have faced a steep cost for the daily continental breakfast. This property is a converted block of high end flats, and the ceiling are very high (18-20 feet). Our unit consisted of a very large room with a bathroom off to one side, a small but functional kitchenette with utensils, kettle etc, a wardrobe and a loft with a double bed. The large room had a desk, table with 4 chairs, large couch (pull out bed), two chairs, coffee table and tv. When the kettle didn't work it was replaced immediately. There was a free laundry in the basement.

We were glad that the continental breakfast was included. Coffee was available in the breakfast room 24/7 and breakfast was simple but good (croissants, fruit, cereal, toast, juice) and the coffee and tea was good.

Aside from the street noise that did not bother us, the bathroom was a challenge. The water temperature was unreliable, and the bathtub itself was hazardous. Beware that the bathmats must be firmly affixed to the tub. Beware also that the bottom of the tube is not flat but on a slope. Failure to firmly attach the bathmat to a sloping tub is probably how Eddie the Eagle got his start. In other words, you could fall and hurt yourself. Also, the bathtubs are 24 inches high, higher that we North Americans are used to. When we did venture to take a bath, we found that the water at night was cold, it was scalding in the moring, and just right about mid-day. I would suggest to hotel management that they replace these tubs with enclosed semi-circular showers with temperature regulators for the water. I think that would turn a very good hotel into an excellent one for me.

I would stay at this hotel again. We were picked up for our Tours from Antiquity tour to Stonehenge about a block away, across from the Natural History Museum, and we walked to both the Royal Albert Hall for the Symphony Spectacular, and also to Kensington High Street.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms face onto Cromwell Road (the window is about ten feet from the street) and the tr...

I have stayed here 3 times, including a stay last month, as a couple & also solo. Feel safe & comfortable. Staff are very pleasant. Studio is not huge but still excellent for central London. It is well laid out & despite the fact that you could gripe a bit (bathrooms a bit tired) I still would not choose anywhere else in this price bracket. Clean linens, comfy bed, ok toiletries. But, ladies, the hairdryer is weedy, take your own if you can !!
Residents lounge, laundry facilities & small outdoor terrace, nice bonus.
I have written this now as I was just looking it up for another stay & came across the most strange critique of the place on another site & it prompted me to put in a few good words.
Overall, it is a great find for a London trip, stroll to High St. Ken. or take tube almost outside at Gloucester Road.

Room Tip: Ring them to discuss your needs, rooms vary from studio to quite large apartments.

Had a great stay six girls went for a weekend in London. Once we arrived we where allowed to check in early. Everywhere is decorated lovely and very clean. The receptionist catered for all out requests which was lovely.
The only minor criticism was we couldn't have free wifi it was extra charge of £10 which i think is annoying.
The staff couldn't do enough to help and make you feel welcome. Calling taxis or fetching us more toilet roll and teabags!
Loved it. Would deffinately stay again. We even had a beautiful view. :) top class staff!!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the dock it's so pretty.
