“Afternoon Tea”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012

Went with my friend for a special deal for Afternoon Tea. Not very special - very sparse sandwich selection, the rest made up of ordinary cake. The trouble is that most places don't know what Afternoon Tea is all about other than the extortionate price that they can charge for it. It's about the bone china cups that are so thin you hardly know you are holding them. It's about the tiny delicious delicate little offerings served on a beautiful cake stand - and a lovely piano playing in the background to serenade you as you sip (The Lanesborough Regent Street - worth every penny). It's about all of these things together. Afternoon Tea is never going to be value for money; it is an experience. The trouble is that not many establishments know that and continue to serve up tea in a thick old cup and saucer and plate of ordinary slab cakes. Not going to fall for this one anymore - not even at Groupon rates!

The location of this hotel is perfect as you have almost everything you could possibly want or need within a block of this hotel, there are several restaurants across the street, M&S (department store) down the block and a lot of stores on Regent Street. The negatives are this is a crowded location and the hotel is difficult to locate (signage is VERY small) I found the location too far out way the negatives at this location, plus the concierge was extremely helpful (probably one of the best I have encountered in my travels) I would stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room toward the front of the hotel or near the elevators

I have stayed at many hotels in London and chose this hotel for the location - and for that we were spot on. Carnaby street was right out the front door - lots of choices for retail, food, drinks.

We walked in and a company (O2) was having a meeting there - the front entry hall, which is small to begin with, was crowded with the check in desk. Then, when trying to get on and off the elevator, they were in our way and acted like we were putting them out to step aside. The paying hotel guests should not feel put out by a 3rd party.

Check in was friendly but not complete - being a gold member I get free wifi - went back to the front desk to get it and the clerk (a different one from check in) gave me an attitude. On top of that, it didn't work in my room - only in the lobby.

Decent room with a large bathroom - but the doors slam shut - so when people enter/leave their rooms, if they let their door go, it is quite a jolt in the neighboring rooms. When getting off the elevator on our floor, there are no signs pointing you to the rooms - so you have to guess which hallway (of many) to go down. Dangerous step in and out of the bathtub. Too bad they don't have a walk-in shower.

Would I stay here again? Only if the rate was more reasonable than the one that I paid. There are other more service oriented hotels in London.

My friend and I had a spa treatment and afternoon tea. We both had a facial done by Jo and Natalie. We found the therapists to be professional and friendly. We were both very pleased with our facials. They even showed us the cells that used to be used years ago. Hence the name Courthouse. Afternoon tea was very enjoyable too. Only one thing we had to wait quite a long time for it. Overall very enjoyable.

The location is excellent and the hotel is all you would expect from Double tree Hilton. Will be using this hotel in the future and would advise any one wanting a Westend hotel to stay there

Staff are excellent
