Visited 23rd September. We have stayed many times, but the room we were given was below normal expectations. Semi en suite is OK. But when I requested an upgrade to en suite, we were told it would be £50 extra, thats £25 each to use the toilet privately.
I was made to pay before we were given our room key, I have always paid on checkout in the past.
The room floor was so uneven, the bed was tipping to the side and towards the headboard. We had to sleep at the other end of the bed to stop blood rush to the head . The carpet was threadbare in a couple of places, and the duvet cover had a hole in it, the room was very tired, I did inform reception of my issues, but nothing was done to fix things. On departure I did tell reception that we had very little sleep, due to the tilt of the bed, didn't seem very concerned to be honest.
Breakfast was good, but no cheese or ham available, the meat was some sort of chicken/turkey roll.when we asked for cheese, we were told there was none available. But it is on the menu. Boiled eggs used to be on the buffet, but no more sadly. Coffee very weak.
There was a major fire exit on the ground floor street level at the bottom of the stairs, this was blocked by beds and sofas amongst other things. Reception informed of this issue also.
This hotel was one of my favourite places to stay, but really gone down hill in my opinion.
