“Excellent hotel in Canary Wharf area of London”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

Firstly, Canary Wharf is a bit off the beaten path in London. It is mostly condos, corporate offices and shopping malls. All the popular tourist sites are a tube journey away. The Jubilee line is a short walk to Canary Wharf stop from the hotel. The upside is that there are 2 Starbucks and all the shopping that you would need along the walk.

Here is the good of the Marriott West India Quay hotel.....

1. The rooms are big for Europe, more like a US hotel room in size, but nicer in decor than a US Marriott.
2. They have a refrigerator with in room bar items that are on a touch sensitive pad, but there
is room for other items.
3. They provide complimentary coffee and tea service in the room to make your own
4. Room lighting control on one switch which simplifies lighting contols. There is individual control of lights by the bed.
5. Nice pillows and linens on the bed
6. Clean rooms
7. Toiletries are Aromatherapy brand. They provide shampoo, conditioner and body lotion
8. Above average free fitness facility with 4 treadmills, free weights,
9 men's and ladies locker room with sauna
10. Complimentary coffee tea and biscuits in the lobby in the morning. I did not eat at the restaurant so can not comment on breakfast

The not so good.....
1. Internet is 15 pounds per 24 hours
2. The picture on the website makes it appear that you will be staying in a glass high rise, but there is a 4 floor section off the big glass structure. These room do not get a lot of natural light if you are stuck on an inside room. You need to ask to stay in the executive apartment wing which is the nice glass structure or ask for an outside facing room in the 4 floor brick wing.
3. You need your room key to use the elevator which is great security but a pain if you forget your key
4. The location is far from central London. It will cost you 8 pounds during peak time to take the tube to central London. You will need to a lot a minimum of 45 minutes to walk and tube it to central London.
5. Canary Wharf on the weekends is not as active so some restaurants are not open with all the corporate offices in the area

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the glass wing if possible. Avoid a room in the 4 story brick wing, especially an...

This is spot on when in canary wharf for business. Walking distance to the whole area, just crossing one of the bridges, and very close to the tube. Good restaurant and bar at the hotel. The executive club is also very nice up on the 7th floor. Generally good facilities (gym, business etc) and the rooms are big and fresh (especially for being in london).

Beautiful, relatively modern hotel. Rooms are larger than most in London. Short walk to any business in Canary Wharf. Right next to West India Quay DLR station (you can look at it from some of the rooms). Views from non-DLR side are very nice.

"Curve Restaurant" in the hotel has excellent food but a bit on the pricey side. Nearby restaurants are in a courtyard next to the hotel or across the inlet. On week-ends during the summer I would often grab a table by the water at "Cafe Rouge" nearby across the quay for breakfast.

There are malls within walking distance with a supermarket and take-out restaurants inside. Very easy to get a snack, light sandwich, fruit, drink etc

Rates can be quite high during business days but week-end rates tend to be a bargain. Good place to stay on a long holiday week-end if you don't mind the ride into central London.

I have stayed here about twice a year for several years now. It is my first choice for visits to Canary Wharf.

The one disappointment is that membership rewards points tend to take long time to be credited to my account - over 5 weeks this time. Its a pet peeve for me since other US chains in the UK don't encounter this delay. Even some other European Marriotts (Frankfurt) credit within days. You'll need to be patient -- or keep your stay short.

Room Tip: Inner courtyard rooms are quiet. Rooms facing the quay or the outer-courtyard have some great scenic...

My wife, 2 children (6&3) and I stayed here this weekend. We booked the stay using Marriott points. I was extremely happy with the relatively low point cost, but I'm sure it was probably related to the hotel being in the business district and the stay occurring over the weekend.

Access to the docklands light railway and underground are convenient. The trip to Kings Cross is about 30 minutes; the trip to Westminster is 20 minutes and a straight shot on the Jubilee line.

The restaurant had a great breakfast with the largest variety of choices I've seen at any UK hotel

All in all, this hotel is probably more like a 4.5 stars. It's just that you don't feel like you are in London at the hotel. However, I'd happily stay here again.

I took my wife here for our 5th Anniversary and her first trip to London.

We got a great deal through Booking.Com, however my sister who joined us got a similar rate when phoning direct.

We were not disapointed. The Canary Wharf area of London is a great location , with good access to the Underground & Docklands Light railway.

The Hotel was immaculate, staff friendly and we will be definately returning.

One slight downside was the obligatory 12.5% service charge that appeared on the bills
