Even though this area is perpetually overcrowded and despite my distaste for crowds, Southwark remains one of my favorite places in one of my favorite cities. Art and culture, history, theatre, dining--it's all here. The Globe and the Tate Modern are great, but I also highly recommend the indoor Wanamaker theatre for an experience of indoor, candlelit theatre as it was in the early modern (i.e., Renaissance) period. Or, you can simply wander and take in the views from the river bank.

Loads of things to see and do in Southwark. Great area to wander round, housing the Shard, Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market. Many places to pop in and browse.

Bridge to be crossed by feet. It offers amazing sight on the Thames so it's a wonderful place for taking a good picture. Advised.

We spent a full week in a beautiful rented flat. This is a very interesting part of the city and walking distance to everything. Also tube and train stations if you desire. Lots of great food and shopping. Next time in London we will spend two weeks in Southwark.
