“perfect for our short break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2012

We stayed here in Jan 2012 for three nights - myself, husband and two daughters.
Our room was clean and spacious enough for the four of us as we were only really using it to sleep in. We didn't eat in the hotel, but did have a few drinks in the bar one evening with some friends. The staff were helpful and friendly - booked a taxi for us etc.

Camden itself is a lovely area, it was a bit cold for doing lots of walking about but I imagine in the summer getting a boat down the river would be lovely. The Tube station is a few minutes walk, there are also plenty buses that take you into the centre of London which pass by the Tube station. There are a few supermarkety type shops nearby that we got snacks from.

We really enjoyed our stay and were lucky enough to get a brilliant deal through 'top secret' hotels (we didn't know the hotel until we booked it) - definitely a bargain and I'll be looking to stay here again if at all possible :)

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the end of April 2012 for a theatre break.
Our room didn't face the lock, so view-wise we only saw a brick wall, however it was a VERY quiet room and that's what we needed. The room was clean and relatively spacious compared to other London hotels we've stayed at before, however there were NO hot water in the shower in the mornings (around 7am) or in the evening, so we had to get back at lunchtime to have a proper shower which was a bit frustrating.
Breakfast was alright, eggs barely cooked but there was a selection of cereals, bread and rolls, beans, bacon, fruit, etc.
Internet - WiFi was a complete exaggeration and overly priced at 8 pounds for 24 hours. Everyone needs WiFi these days so overcharging for this service is in a way greedy of the hotel. The explanation that they have a fast connection is in my opinion just an excuse as usually for most people 1.5/25MB is enough to check emails/twitter/facebook.

Staff at the hotel were alright - I've seen previous reviews on TripAdvisor about how helpful they were, I have to say that apart from the lovely man whose name I've forgotten at the concierge - no one seemed to do that extra bit - it was just ordinary service nothing more, nothing else (and it's not necessarily a bad thing!).

Camden Town itself is lovely - lots of restaurants and coffee shops nearby, and of course the market is buzzing especially on Saturdays and Sundays.
Not sure I'd stay here again, as I'd rather stay at the Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury.

Not having a second chance would be a shame since we seemed not to have worked wonders on this occasion!

That is some detailed feedback and we appreciate this, thank you. I even took the liberty to share your rather positive comment on Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury, with our Brand friends & family there.

We're very pleased that you enjoyed Camden Town and we tend to reflect the location characteristics with ours; or is it just the way we are? But we failed to communicate this passion, enthusiasm and cultural mix in this instance ... so frustrating for us.

Anyway, we have some good news in store for you: as of this month, we are offering Free WiFi in all our Public Areas. We only charge a nominal fee (half the price of some hotel you know) to maintain our systems and our two ADSL lines. Furthermore, we believe that soon, standard connections will be available throughout for free, only business level connections (higher bandwidth and capabilities) will be chargeable.

Finally, I personally keep an eye on our standards and services; a nicely comfortable bed and a very good shower are a minimum. I heard you, thank you. As for your eggs, our Chef would have been so happy to cook them the way you wanted .. I promise you, he hasn't thrown any knife at anyone.

So, should you change your mind, we'll all be soooo pleased to show you our true face of Camdeners!

We look forward to that opportunity. Thank you.

Holiday Inn Camden Lock is located in the perfect location for the lock, shops, markets and restaurants. The rooms are spacious with two beds, tea, coffee, tv, fridge etc.
The food and service in the hotel is good , for this type of hotel. It didn't feel like a part of an anonymous chain hotel---more like the welcome and staff you would expect from a family run hotel.

We are indeed a big family -of about 70 Camdeners- just to look after You! And we enjoy it very much ...

We are also very proud of being part of the larger Holiday Inn family and we strive to take the Brand even further; friendly faces, relaxed atmosphere, a no-no attitude, nothing is a problem ... every one of us rather bring a little something that is very Us, to make a very personable experience for You.

So we cannot begin to tell you how happy it makes us to read we surprised you! That's just us.

Thank you so much. We do look forward to making your stay again and again ...

This hotel is in a great location, right next to Camden Lock. The rooms are comfortable. Nothing fancy about it, but you don't need much more in London.

Hotel staff polite, but not particularly helpful.

PS: Don't pay for breakfast, it's not worth it as it is below average quality and there are dozens of restaurants in the area for great breakfast.

I am struggling to understand where we've gone wrong here, probably you could help me?

We will be trying not to take it personally yet we, Camdeners, are very passionate. We do put our heart into welcoming our guests and whatever we do. So we might have to realise that, maybe, we cannot seduce everyone ... but this is very frustrating for us.

At least, we got a 5 out of 5 for your beauty sleep, and this is what matters most ... for most hotels. Will we get another chance one day to WOW you possibly?

I shall certainly hope so. In the meantime, thank you for taking of your time to feed us back.
