Knowing about the reputation of Simon Rogan's restaurant, L'Enclume in Cartmel and never having been close enough to go, my wife and I were in London the other week (to see Collaborators at the National) and booked for a late lunch at Simon's temporary London venture, Roganic, just off Marylebone High Street. Having seen how well Mr Rogan did in The Great British Menu, we were hoping our lunch would be memorable - and it certainly was. We booked for the set lunch of 3 courses and, after a very warm welcome, we sat at a table by the window and agreed that each course would be a 'surprise.' Every one was a very happy surprise indeed, from the amuse bouches to open through to the poached pear, sweet cheese and hyssop to finish. There were 6 courses all told (we think!), every one a delight and all testament to a kitchen knowing exactly what it was doing. We loved every minute of our 2 hours at Roganic - and all for around £100 including a bottle of wine and coffee. Very highly recommended - while it is still there.
