This Hotel is great. I got a room on the top. Very good exercise. The room was very quiet even if it was facing the street. It was clean and I shared a bathroom and it was clean.
Breakfast was great. The staff very friendley. The location is great, Marbel Arch tube is just around the corner, Buses leaves on Bayswater road. You must book this Hotel in good time in advance , it is very popular. You get a lot for your money here.

We stayed at the Parkwood in January 2012.. I had stayed there before, and I knew that the hotel's location would be great, and it would be clean, give a good breakfast and have adequate provision for a city break. It did provide all of that. Coffee and tea etc.provided. Just to note though, there is no lift and it can be along way up sometimes...The staff generally, but especially,at breakfast were great as were the staff who cleaned our rooms, always friendly and helpful.
There was an issue re our room allocation when we arrived, and I found the response from the female member of staff on duty to be rather aggressive at the time, almost telling me I was not telling the truth. The experience certainly upset me and sullied the start of our holiday. It was definitely not a case of 'the customer is always right'. The manager then phoned us just as we arrived into the room. She seemed very annoyed with us,told us she was in bed sick, and then ferociously defended the receptionist, even though she was not present at the time to hear what had taken place. She then said she would give us a reduction in fees, which resulted in a few pounds off two of our three nights stay as a 'good will' gesture. We didn't ask or expect that and already knew we were getting a good deal and happy to pay the price. It would have been much more pleasant for us,and more professional of them, if the first response had been, "I,m so sorry we,ve made a mistake, what can we do to help". It was a horrible twenty minutes from arriving at the hotel..(.but hopefully it was a one off experience because of the illness).
Due to this experience, when we were faced with very loud and all night disturbance from the floor above, we felt we couldn't face another situation where we needed to complain.
We ourselves, through desperation and sleep privation as our excuse, did knock on the door of the room concerned on two occasions at 11.56pm and the following night at 5.40 am, as there were no staff on desk at that time of night, and the situation eased for a short space of time. (When paying our bill on leaving, the manager asked how was our stay.I told her our room had been very noisy, and she said we could have phoned the desk as there was a member of staff sleeping on the premises and available if there was a problem, which I hadn't been aware of).
The beds were so comfortable and the room quiet, it was such a shame for the pounding on the creaking floorboards for so many hours,to have disrupted our sleep so much.
I would try the Parkwood again, even though,on this occasion we did leave with a bitter taste...
it is value for money and a great location, well worth a try..

We are always aware, and this is a case in point, how stress levels rise when travelling and small problems can seem much greater. The two ladies had pre-booked and paid for a twin-bedded room and arrived at the hotel in the morning before their room was ready. However, they asked if they could have a look at their room and the receptionist, not hearing their name correctly as they were not completing the check-in process at that time, mistakenly showed them a different room to the one they had booked, a family unit with 2 inter-connecting rooms. When they came back to the hotel later to check in a different receptionist was on duty and gave them the key to the correct room. They were disappointed that the room allocated to them wasn't the larger unit that they'd seen earlier but it was pointed out that they were only paying for a twin-bedded room and the family who had booked the 4-person unit (which was £36 per night more than the room they had booked) had already arrived and were in their rooms.
We can understand the two ladies being upset at not having the 2-room unit after all but they didn't seem, at the time, to accept that it was a genuine mistake by the earlier receptionist and there was definitely no shouting from the receptionist's side.
The following morning one of the ladies apologised to the receptionist for shouting at her and said that she was happy with the room they'd been given. The manageress apologised for the first receptionist's mistake and assumed that "all's well that ends well" and, for the remainder of their stay, the ladies were very friendly and departed on very good terms. It was a surprise therefore to get this mixed review going back to their original complaint that seemed to have been resolved. However, her review ended with the statement that she'd try the Parkwood again and "it is value for money and a great location, well worth a try" which we'd like to thank her for and we will certainly look forward to seeing her again one day.

The good news is... wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, comfy bed, reasonable rate. The not so good news is... you get what you pay for - the room was very small (no room for suitcases), the shower was tiny (was very difficult to raise arms to wash hair) and the floor was sloped.

Just returned from Parkwood after 4 night stay. The price for London and the location, as well as the good trip advisor reviews made us choose here. The phrase which kept staying in my mind throughout the stay was "perfectly adequate". It is by no means luxury, but is basic and clean enough, though not spotless. Good points are location, just opposite Hyde Park and round the corner from Oxford Street, five minutes walk to Marble Arch tube station which you can get anywhere you want to go from, friendly staff, and again "perfectly adequate" breakfast fare (no fancy choices, juice, cereal, standard cooked), but as others have said avoid the tomatoes as they are tinned. Also free computer access which was good. Down sides for us were that we were in a small double room (although we knew this before we went) which meant bed was against the wall with no bedside table, just a shelf at wall side beside my head. Safe in wardrobe was deeper than the wardrobe, which meant they had taken the back off the top of the wardrobe to get it in, which we found a bit odd. There was a hairdryer, which was a plus point, except it was mounted to the wall, as was the mirror, but they were too far apart to use the one with the other! It was a good quiet location but, as we have often found in any b&b, noise and voices from the room next door carry plainly into ours, especially the shower. We had just gone to bed first night, when noise started which startled us at first as we thought something had gone wrong with the heating or the plumbling, but we then realised that the someone was using the shower right on the other side of the wall. Again, a problem which we have encountered in many b&bs, and don't really know how would be solved, short of sound proofing every room!
Anyway, to sum up, perfectly adequate, not the brilliant five star experience you may expect from some of the other reviews, but worth enough the £92 per night for a room in London in this location.

We spent 5 nights at the Parkwood in Jan. 2012 and had a delightful time. Our room was perfect for our needs (we didn't spend much time in the room!) and contrary to other reviews I'd read, the bathroom /shower was NOT as small as some travelers seem to think. There was zero noise problem. Our room overlooked the rear of the property courtyard. It was very quiet; we never heard any street noise or noise from neighboring rooms.

Breakfast each morning was simple, yet ample and freshly prepared.

The best 3 things about the Parkwood are location, location, location. It is literally a 5 minute walk from the front door to Hyde Park and the Marble Arch Tube station. Our first morning we walked from the hotel through Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace and the Thames River docks in less than an hour - with lots of stops for photos!

Our next trip to London will be much easier to plan because we don't have to figure out where we're going to stay! We will be at the Parkwood.
