“Does exactly what it says on the tin!!!”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

I got a fantastic deal for the weekend at the Aloft and couldn't have asked for more; perfect for the price I paid. Stayed here in April with my partner for two nights for an event at London Excel and what a fantastic location; the ExCel is literally on the doorstep of the hotel. It's not 5 star but it was perfect for what it is; it 'does everything it says on the tin'.
On arrival; check-in was smooth and quick; not technically minded so didn't even attempt to use the self check-in or out.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming; although could have provided more information about the hotel at check-in as I spent about 5 minutes trying to work out how the lifts worked when I first got there; bit of a complicated system; but a fantastic system none-the-less.
The room was lovely and modern decor throughout; but not clinical but not homely either; felt like I was staying in a hotel. The bed was comfortable and had a fantastic sleep (word of advice; try to get a room facing the rear as the view is not great but much nicer than the front). The room was absolutely spotless (I always check for dirt, dust and hair on arrival at every hotel and it always pleases me when I find a place this free from any of that). There were just enough toiletries, tea and coffee provided and as I'm a huge tea drinker; when I asked for more teabags; they were very happy to provide me with them; only downside was the paper cups??? Well, at least I didn't have to worry about whether they had been washed properly.
I loved the fact that the rooms had everything you could need and the fridge was a great touch to store the drinks; there was a hairdryer and iron also.
One of the things I dislike most about hotels; is often that you feel that you don't get enough privacy; however, here I didn't feel like I was getting in anybody's way and didn't feel like I had to be too quiet or that I was being intrusive; basically the rooms are nice and private with no noise from outside or neighbour rooms.
Only downside about The Aloft is probably the location if you're not driving or visiting the Excel. There are no shops nearby or many places to eat; the restaurant was too quiet so didn't look inviting so decided to get the DLR to the O2 which has an array of lovely restaurants, but wasn't happy about walking to the station and taking a ride in the rain and if you can't be bothered and don't want to eat in the restaurant, than you'll starve, but you wouldn't be disappointed sitting in your hotel room because wifi is a wonderful bonus.
All in all, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it and will be staying again.

Stayed for a convention at the ExCel - Splendid service, location with Aloft flair.

Heads up for Yanks - US Travelers, make sure you have your voltage converters that have a GROUND as the outlets have a ground plug shield (Read: it needs a ground plug, or plastic pen cap in my case, to push open the security cover inside the socket.) Extra bonus is the USB power port! I appreciate the power saving light switch that requires a key by the door, but it's a bit annoying at first. Standard Aloft layout and amenities, good for business traveler (or couples) and not so much for families or people needing space. Also impressed at how LITTLE plane noise there was for proximity to airport and I was on the Thames side of the building too.

As for travel, Docklands light rail (DLR), gets you to the Jubilee line @ Canning Town. From there you can get to even far reaches pretty quickly since your getting on before Canary Wharf (busy stop). Be advised, DLR doesn't run super early. Take a cab to Canning Town for Tube connections to Airport Rail Services. If you're leaving City airport, it just doesn't matter because they don't run early anyway.

Will agree that service, always very helpful and nice, was quite thin during busy times (early AM). It's just a scheduling issue, something correctable and you can compensate for as a traveler if you know to budget a few more minutes.

Room Tip: Stay far from elevators - music on 24/7.

booked if for 5 days with my son. Enjoyed the fresh and modern interiour.

Food in the accompanied resto was poor according our experience.
Not to expensive but absolutely italian uninspired. Half way to quick service level.

Breakfast for us perfect as my son and me eat not that much and a full breakfast would be a complete waste.

I believe for business trips it will be ok but if fully booked staff will come to its limits.
Gym and sauna /pool are nice it will depend on maintenance and cleaning if I will enjoy it as I have done this time.

Staff very friendly and most of the time trying too help foreign customers with limited knowledge in english language.

As I used this hotel for a private trip and DLR station that close that hotel was perfect for me.

Next time coming in via Eindhoven - London City Airport, it will be a smoother travel compared to former using cars and feries starting in Germany.

I hope this concept will pay off, next year next chance

Room Tip: 8th floor was great. North side will have less decibel from the airport ( but it was really calm and...
