“RIPPED OFF”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

The receptionist tried to put 3 ladies in a room with two double beds even though we had paid for two rooms.
Use of swimming pool was 3.50 and 4.95 internet for 15 minutes, even though I just wanted to download my newpaper onto my Kindle.
When we went to breakfast we were checked by 3 different people just in case we tried to sneak in.
Eastern european staff very unhelpful.

We booked this hotel after booking then cancelling a Travelodge at Covent Garden. We normally visit London every year or so and in the past we have stayed at Travelodges. I booked Covent Garden, then realised for very little extra, I could get a Holiday Inn, 2x Double bed room, with breakfast. No brainer!
The hotel was a 10 minute walk south from Kings Cross. Check-in was a breeze, 2 room cards given without being asked for(always handy) and a brief explanation of breakfast times, spa times etc. We were given room 647, 6th floor with a decent view looking south over London towards St Pauls, the Gherkin, the new Shard etc. Immediately outside the hotel is a large Royal Mail depot(Mt Pleasant) but I can honestly say we never heard ANY noise from it, trucks etc. Our room had 2 double beds, table/chairs, en-suite bath, fridge, tea/coffee facilities and TV with the regular extras. The room, although looking a 'wee' bit tired, was clean and adequate for our needs. Our party consisting of 2 adults & 1 child, we had no issue with space, or lack off.
Breakfast was served from quite early(no idea, I don't do early) until 10-10:30. We breakfasted most days around 08:45, there was a small queue immediately outside the lift where someone takes names/room numbers then they direct you to either the continental breakfast room or English breakfast room. We were 'EB', queues were no more than 2 minutes but this looked longer when we left after 09:00. Breakfast itself was more than adequate. Plenty Juices along with teas and fresh coffee on offer. Croissants(& jams), bread rolls, cereals, dried and fresh fruits, yoghurts were available along with a full range of self service hot breakfast items.
We never used any other facilities in the hotel as London is busy busy, plenty to see and do. For those that like a drink to wind down in the evening the hotel bar seemed quite quiet but I chose to go to the Pakenham Arms, a nice little pub 2 minutes west of the hotel. plenty wines and real ales to choose from.
Leaving the hotel, we got the tube everywhere, you have a choice of Farringdon, Kings Cross or Russell Sq. The hotel is equidistant from all of them and is around a 10 minute walk. We chose Russel Sq most days as it's on the Piccadilly line, handy for Leicester Sq, Covent Garden and South Kensington(Natural History and Science Museum). We used Farringdon when going towards the Tower of london/Tower Bridge and the South Bank,
Overall, another excellent London hotel experience, if the price is right I will definitely book here again!!

Room Tip: Entirely up to the individual, but I would suggest a room higher up, away from any potential road no...

I booked this as we were going to London for a couple of days sightseeing. We had our 16 yr old and a 12 yr old sons with us.
I booked a room with a double bed and a sofa bed for the boys. On arrival we had been given a room with two double beds in, so that was better, and the room was quite spacious.
Check in was super fast, and they let us check in three hours early as the room was ready, although we werent actually given any other info, such as swimming pool use etc.
Room had fridge (not stocked) and tea, coffee ( no biscuits or water).
Bathroom was ok, not spotless but not dirty either.
Our bed was awful, very soft, moved on the casters when you moved, and I kept rolling into the middle.
Walls to corridor seemed paper thin. Throughout the night I was woken to noisy drunks coming back, and at one point i thought they were in my room, but as soon as they went into their own I didnt hear anything more.
Temperature was ok, and didnt feel all stuffy next morning, which is a usual thing for hotel stays.
Breakfast on the Sunday was until 11am and check out 12am, which was good. For breakfast we had choice of full english, fruit, yogurt, cereals, bread, croissants, ham, cheese. For the hot breakfast we needed a voucher to hand in, which is a first, but it didnt matter, unless youre someone who likes to go back for seconds!! There was plenty of food, nothing had run out (last hotel we stayed at we had to wait 15 mins for everything to be replenished) and the food was very nice and hot. Tables were cleared quickly and staff seemed nice.
Didnt use the pool, as no info anywhere in room and think we had to pay extra, but didnt have time anyway.
Left our bag in reception on last day, staff happy to take it. Priced up taxi to station - £5.
Location!!! - not brilliant. On web it says 0.6 mile from Kings Cross station, which is probably about right, but seemed farer, and after a day walking round London, up and down steps of tube etc it felt like a long long walk back on the evening. It's not ideal to just nip back to hotel, in fact, we stayed out all day and ate on the evening, without getting changed first. The area seems a bit rough and dirty also.
We used tube throughout the two days, which cost £37 for all day tickets, but intended to use the open top bus with commentary, where you can get on and off - this was going to cost £80 for one day!!
Price wise, everything you want to do in London for a family of four seems to be £100 upwards. Be prepared. Look for cheaper ways, we used vouchers from National Rail, 2 for 1's with train tickets.
London Eye cost us £38 instead of £70 with voucher and saying our 16 yr old was 15!! -- this worked out at good value and was worth doing. Very well organised. At first look, it seemed we'd be queueing for ages, but was only queueing for about 15 mins total.
Tried to eat Saturday night at Hard Rock Cafe - was really looking forward to this - but on finally finding the place, joined the small queue and was told we'd have a 1hr 35 min wait outside just for a table - which would have made it 9pm eating!! Didnt bother, and found a place called Chicago Rib Shack, Knightsbridge - this was really nice, welcoming staff, good food, lovely homely atmosphere. Still cost us £100 for one drink each, one main each, two deserts and two Irish coffees, but would definately go again.
Visited Science Museum, worth going to see. Lots to do, and we had 4 hrs there and still had to skip a couple of the floors as it was closing. Beware the massive gift shop, some good stuff to buy though, just be prepared and remind the kids to take their pocket money. Nice coffee shop there, and you can get full meals if needed.
Used Grand Central train company on way down. Very good, food to buy, free wifi, plugs on tables, way back used East Coast - comfier seats, buffet cart went through train, wifi free only for first 15 mins, then £5 charge.

Having just spent three nights away at the Holiday Inn with my family, I would consider this hotel good value for money. The Hotel is situated on Kings Cross Road and with a husband and two boys aged 7 and 10 it took us 40 mins to walk from Euston Station to the hotel with our luggage. It is not the best hotel if you are wanting to be right in the middle of it but then if you are wanting a four star hotel right in the centre book elsewhere and pay the higher price. The nearest tube stations are either Kings Cross or Farringdon (depending which tube line you want to go on). We stayed in a family room, consisting of two double beds. The room was extremely clean and well equiped. The package we chose was bed and full english breakfast (the latter did not disappoint). If you are wanting to be seated in the restaurant straight away you needed to be down early (we were away in the school holidays and found that if we were down after 8.30 you had to queue for about 20 mins for your breaky). The breakfast was a buffet, help yourself, style which you could eat as much as you wanted. We ate in the hotel on one of the evenings, in the Indian restaurant. The food was excellent, though the portions sizes were small (maybe we are just greedy). If you like a curry then you will enjoy and the staff are extremely pleasant. The only major downside to the hotel, if you are planning a trip with young children, the small hotel pool puts restrictions on when children are allowed to go into the pool area. 8.30 - 7.30pm (I can understand why they do it but it does not help when your children would prefer to stay at the hotel during the day and miss out on all the attractions of London :-( We would have loved it if the pool had have been made available when we got back to the hotel at 8pm so we could take the boys in there after a day out treading the pavements - sore aching feet desparately needed this facility.
Overall good value for money but not if you want to be more centrally located for the theatres and attractions of London.
