“Not bad, would stay again”
Reviewed 27 July 2012

Stayed here for Hard Rock calling in Hyde Park. BIt of a hike to the concert area of Hyde Park but only a tenner in a taxi back!
Great location, just minutes from Kensington High Street and very easy access to the rest of London via the tube again only minutes away.
Bedrooms were a bit dated, however the beds were super comfy. This is one of the reasons we pay a bit more for a hotel room as we can't stand cheap hard beds, so we weren't let down on this aspect. It was quite pricey and the service was a bit aloof, but on the hole the stff were ok.
A quick mention to the Indian/Asian lady running the breakfast staff - she was fab, and the breakfast staff were lovely too - hyper attentive; clearing your plates and refilling your coffee in the blink of an eye with a smile! Breakfast itself was ok, but not really 4 star fair...

I agree that this hotel is a bit of an '80's monster from the outside. It doesn't have the feel of a 4 star hotel, certainly not the rooms anyway. Also the tea coffee making was a very sparce one cup each of tea and coffee - but I would return again. Parking was also a bargain too - basement parking at £10.00/24 hours when you stayed in the hotel and paid your parking ticket in reception.

just stayed one night as I was attended a reception for the Lesotho Olympic Team in a posh hotel on Park Lane.

Great hotel, rooms are good size and the A/C was much needed on such a warm night. I was upgraded to a club room and the free breakfast was excellent. The club room was calm and quiet and breakfast was very relaxing and the staff really friendly.

The only criticism I have of the Tara (and not just the Tara) is the iron. These days we need to have steam irons as it is impossible to iron formal shirts without steam!!! I know it is expensive to replace all the irons with steam versions but maybe a few could be kept by housekeeping for those who need perfectly ironed shirts.

Apart from this little niggle, I would happily recommend the Tara. The higher rooms are great as you have wonderful views over Kensington.

I was also very impressed with the room service. I had a late night veggie sandwich which was very good and not too expensive.

It was fun being in a hotel with olympic officials as the whole place was buzzing with excitement and so many different nationalities.

Room Tip: smile and wear a suit, you might get upgraded to club.

It's a very good hotel, managed by a big hotel chain: Copthorne and Millenium. It is very good located, 100 meters from a good subway station. There are stores and restaurants nearby. The rooms are very comfortable, the bed very soft. The cleanliness was impeccable. There is no complimentary Internet or breakfast, they must be payed in separate. There is a big Thai restaurant, a currency bureau change, a souvenir store and a ticket office for theater.

Time to rest? not really the noise form the metr/train one could hear all night long, then I made a phone call and ended up paying more for the phone call than my whole 3 day stay I asked the receptionist to please ask the manager to review the bill she didn't want to, I ask to have a letter stating the price of the minute and why I was being charged so much money and the answer was no. I really felt robbed never going back EVER!

They offer interconnecting rooms with an overhead ceiling hoist in one of the rooms.

In June this year we stayed with our daughter who is an electric wheelchair user and requires hoisting for all transfers.

We did notice on arrival that there appeared to be no charging point for the hoist but the duty manageress assured us that it would charge as it moved along the tracking!!

All was fine if slow and creaky until the 2nd day when the hoist stopped working – clearly through lack of charge.

The hotel sent some men with wrenches to fix it but apparently they couldn’t as when we arrived back from the theatre that evening, we found a note saying if we wanted to use the hoist, we would have to move rooms.

So at 11 pm at night, we had to move all our stuff and all our daughter’s equipment across the corridor with no help or support from the hotel staff. No apologies the next day and the letter from the manager we were promised never arrived either.
