This was our first stay in HI and my husband and I stayed 2 nights as we were going to see the Royal Marines Music Spectacular at Horse Guards parade on the Wednesday evening. Having read some of the reviews I was slightly apprehensive but on arrival I was welcomed as a Priority Club member by a very pleasant young lady on reception. Although we arrived a while before the advertised check in time we were told our room was ready, directed to the lifts and advised that we would need to use our room card in the lift and to obtain electric in the room. The room and bathroom were very clean, there was a small fridge which was handy, tea & coffee making facilities. The bed & pillows were very clean and comfortable. Our room was on the second floor right at the end of the corridor so away from any noise from people using the lifts or passing the room. We didn't have food in the hotel so I can't comment on that.We wanted to make the most of our last morning in London so checked out and took our bags to the luggage store. The two gentlemen we saw were very helpful both when we left the cases and collected them. We will happily stay here again when in London.
The hotel is very near to Gloucester Road tube which makes getting around London very easy. Waitrose and Tesco 24 are nearby and The Stanhope Arms pub just across the road from the station do good breakfasts and bar meals.

I've stayed here half a dozen times, most recently in May 2012. I arrived just as the power went out for 2+ hours - not their fault, it was also the surrounding area. Staff brought water round to guests in the lobby and were helpful with left luggage and hotel safes. I left luggage and went to the nearby museums for the rest of the afternoon (Natural History and V&A are 10-15 minutes walk, and free). It's a large impersonal hotel but I've always found the staff reasonably friendly and the rooms basic, clean, comfortable and quiet (I get high up). Location great for museums, safe nice neighborhood with supermarket, post office (good place to change money), food, pubs, etc., tube station (Heathrow easy one way, town the other). Cons: a bit pricey for a no-frills hotel; no safe in standard rooms; annoyingly high cost for WiFi. This is not an exciting "memorable" hotel but it has been reliable for me.

Room Tip: Higher up,and facing away from Cromwell Road if possible.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June 2012. When we arrived, there was no power so we were unable to check in. We were told we could leave our bags in the luggage room, which worked out okay as we ended up exploring Kensington Gardens while we waited.
When we walked back about 2 hours later, the power was back! As we waited for a lift to go up to our room, the fire alarm went off...and we had to evacuate!!! So we sat outside with all of our bags for about an hour. By this stage we were over it!! When we finally were allowed back in, we were unable to use the lifts, so we had to carry 30kgs worth of luggage up 14 flights of stairs... We asked for assistance to be told, no. We weren't impressed how this was handled, with not even an apology or a way offered to make the inconvenience up to us. However, when we checked out, we complained and the manager offered us points for our Priority Rewards Club... Hmmm... I guess this is better than nothing.
All in all, the hotel is in a nice location - it is safe, right next to a train station and the Big Red Bus also stops around the corner too. It's walking distance to Kensington Palace and Gardens, and quite a few restaurants and pubs. It was cheap, had everything we needed so we would stay there again next time we're in London... Using our bonus priority points!
