Six family members stayed for a week at the Montague. We rented three rooms, One on the first floor, one on the second, and one on the top. This boutique hotel was not only beautiful, but friendly. Everyone at the Montague seemed to truly like their job, and they addressed us by name from day one.
All of the rooms were beautifully decorated. The linens and mattress were very comfortable, and turn down service was great. Just don't leave anything on your bed, otherwise they will not perform turndown service.
The rooms were all quite small, but hey, it's Europe, right? They were very comfortable and there was a nice variety of movies available to purchase. All of them were decorated individually, none better than another.
Our group spent a lot of time in the English bar downstairs. A big shout out to Lance, the bartender! He was great. The lounge was everything you would want in a hotel. Open early, open late, comfortable seating, prompt service, and live piano entertainment enjoyable by all ages. It was a great place to regroup at the end of the day's adventures! My mother smokes, and there is a very nice patio area next to the gardens where smokers go. She met some fascinating people on that patio!
The breakfast is nice, but expensive, up to $60 for two people. That is why we really appreciated that there is a restaurant in a park just a block from the hotel that served anything you wanted at reasonable (for London) prices. Just exit the front of the hotel, turn left, and walk a block to the park. Take the walk through the park and the restaurant is on your right.
Our travel agent made an error and booked our stay beginning the following day that we arrived. Thank goodness they had availability, and we were welcomed graciously by Kayleigh, who made everything right in a matter of minutes. She was really professional and kind.
Our sons' room on the top floor sprung a leak near the end of our weeks' stay. Instead of making us do the move ourselves, the hotel staff sent us on our way and moved the boys to a second story room, which I believe was the biggest of the four we stayed in!
One of the concierges, Jorge, went out of his way to book a last minute tour to Windsor Castle during the Jubilee. We decided to escape the city traffic that day instead of go in to watch the regatta. It is not easy to accommodate six people on a tour at such a late hour, but he made it happen. And to boot, we got to see the queen leave Windsor on her way to the Jubilee from a window across the lawn!
This hotel has extraordinary employees. There were a couple of glitches, but everyone on staff was willing to make them right. And who gives a darn about London's rain when you have such a lovely place to come home to every day!
