“Great to be back”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

This was our 3rd time to the Montague and amazingly the service is even better (see our 15 Oct 2005 review). The staff was very accommodating from the late night front desk to the housekeeping and the waiters. We prefer traditional English decor and the Montague has several rooms in this category (and other more contemporary rooms if you desire). We enjoyed afternoon tea, breakfast, and a light pre-theatre dinner (so that’s how Pimm’s is served!) We’ve stayed at other Red Carnation hotels (and other London boutique hotels) but prefer the location of the Montague. We’ll be back--hopefully soon.

Room Tip: Decor varies so be flexible or ask to see another room. They are all unique.

I just had to write a review on this lovely hotel because the service from everyone at the Montague was exemplary. George Alvarez took care of us back in December when we 1st arrived from a 6 month trip to India and then again in January when we returned. The concierge staff helped use with everything from storing luggage during our travels to Europe, arranging transfers in and out of Heathrow, and making sure my son and I could ride bikes around London during Christmas. The front desk staff was efficient and arranged the room for me and my son. The food and beverage staff was amazing. We had booked the Winter Wonderland package for December and the deck was closed for Christmas but they opened it for the 2 of us so we could enjoy all the amenities. The Christmas lunch was wonderful and festive and the food at all of our meals was lovely.

My son and I had been traveling all over for the past 6 months and the Montague was by far the loveliest in terms of service and making us feel right at home. The wonderful staff made our stay truly memorable and we look forward to returning soon.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your very complementary feedback on your two visits to the Montague.

It is an absolute pleasure reading your comments and I am thrilled to hear that you found our service and hospitality to be exemplary.

I was delighted to read about the personal attention that was provided to you by Jorge and I will ensure that his personal service is duly recognised.

I was equally glad to read that we were able to offer you our Winter Wonderland experience at a time it was normally closed.

We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Great hotel on a quiet street in central London. Rooms are small but functional.

The best thing about this hotel is the warmth of the staff. Everyone is friendly and courteous and nothing is too much trouble. I have travelled widely and stayed in many hotels. The Montague on the Gardens is up there with the best. The staff are amazing.

(Poached eggs for breakfast was a real treat.)

From the moment you enter this hotel you are enveloped in the charm of days gone by. The staff are delightful, the furnishings gorgeous and breakfast superb.
There is a lovely bar area which is lovely for pre dinner drinks...great bar snacks come complimentary with your drinks. The room was nicely furnished, the bed oh so comfy, nice view over the gardens but it was incredibly small. Not a big issue, but I did have to stack suitcases in the cupboard to make room to walk around the bed. A friend we were travelling with had a single room which was smaller still, and only had a single bed. He is a tall man and in retrospect we should have ordered a double for him when booking, the price was not much different.
The hotel is a short walk from Russell St Station which makes it easy to get around and a direct train ride to Heathrow.

Room Tip: Book the best room you can afford, we booked a superior double and it was tiny.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely feedback on your recent stay at the Montague.

I am pleased to read that you had a memorable stay with us and that you enjoyed the service, the ambiance and the facilities that we have on offer.

Thank you for your comments regarding the size of your room. The Montague is a listed building made up of nine individual Georgian townhouses with a wide array of differently shaped and sized rooms. May I suggest that you request a room with additional space when next making a booking. I do hope that this did not detract too much of your stay with us.

I hope that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Montague soon.

Yours sincerely,

We stayed at this hotel for the Jubilee weekend and found it even more welcoming than our first visit about four years ago. The level of service was excellent and the staff were superb with their helpfulness and courtesy. Our bedroom was very pleasant and comfortable and we would throroughly recommend this hotel, both for its sevice and location. We certainly hope to stay there again in the not too distant future.
