“Close to the Tube and Brick Lane Market Too!”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

The unit is very close to East Aldgate tube station. A very easy walk when you are dragging your suitcases around. The location of this unit is very good. There is a fair sized Tesco a couple of blocks away and across the street (Whitechapel). If you take the tube one more stop to the Whitechapel stop you are just a couple of minutes walk from a very large Sainsbury's. We did most of our shopping here as they had so much more than the Tesco. We had a great time on Sundays going to the the street market down Brick Lane. They have some incredible food stalls. Some undercover and some right on the street. There are also many restaurants that offer incentives for you to dine at them.
Back to the unit. Carlos was a great host, friendly and eager to answer any questions that we had. We stayed two weeks and Carlos stopped in after the first week. He laundered the towels and bedding for us. A bonus and something that we had not expected. The unit is quite large for two people. A decent sized bedroom. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom has a tub with a shower in it. The kitchen, dining area, and living room are open plan and are a very nice size. The stove is gas and has 4 burners and an oven. The sink is full size. There is a washing machine and a separate dryer. Lots of counter space in the kitchen. The dining table is large enough to seat 4 people. The fridge was large enough for us, not north american size but certainly adequate. The T.V. is a flat screen. I don't know the exact measurement but it is certainly large enough. The internet is fast enough to facetime or skype with.
There are also some items at the unit left by previous tenants. People have left some seasonings, oil, jam etc. for the next people. There is also various tourist books etc. to look through if you are interested or looking for ideas.
A couple of things that would make this rental better for some people would be:
1. A voip phone, we have had this at a couple of rentals in the past. It makes it free to call North America as well as local calls. Not a big deal for us as we were able to facetime home and did have a cell phone with us to make local calls.
2. A coffee maker.
3.Kitchen and cooking utensils could have been a bit cleaner.

I think the only big con for this property is noise at night. The windows are only single pane and even when they are closed up tight you still hear what is going on in the street below. We were woken up a couple of times because of people yelling to/at each other. Would this stop me from staying here again? NO, this is a nice unit with a great host.

“Fantastic apartment, location not for everyone”

The apartment was perfect, and Carlos was a great host. Good wifi, and an easy walk to the tube.
The neighborhood, while safe, was a little grimy, so older people or people with kids might not feel comfortable at night.
Also, on Friday and Saturday nights it can be a little loud until 12 or 1am if you're a light sleeper, with the pub-goers accidentally winding up on this street. Recommend ear plugs if you need to make an early start the day after.

“Great stay”
Reviewed 28 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Carlos was very friendly and accommodating. The bed was comfortable, the studio was clean and secure. The best apart about this apartment was the excellent location. 2 minute walk from aldgate east and 10 from Liverpool street. The brick lane area is a real urban, loud and multicultural neighbourhood so naturally the apartment was very noisy but not at fault to anyone - just the area it is in as are many other city apartments. Safety was not a concern. Only downsides really to the apartment were the spotty hot/cold water in the washroom and the temperamental washer/dryer. At the end of the day it's a reasonably priced place to stay within the downtown stretches of an expensive city and with this you must not expect that it will be 4 star accommodation. Urban apt in a cramped and urban city.

“Great flat in amazing location”

I have just spent 5 nights in Carlos' apartment and I can't praise the apartment or the location enough. The apartment is spacious for a one bedroom flat and has everything you need - amongst other things, great TV with flat screen, very good WiFI reception and a comfortable bed. The location is great - I am originally from London and moved away 10 years ago so I know London very well. I can honestly say that Brick Lane is now my favourite place to stay when visiting London - Brick Lane itself has a definite buzz and nowadays quite trendy. There are lots of cafes and restaurants and amazing street food in the Sunday market.( a must is a visit to Bagel Bake, the very last shop at the bottom of Brick Lane, for their smoked salmon and salt beef bagels. A visit to Borough Market in London Bridge at the weekend is also highly recommended) The flat is 3 minutes walk to Aldgate East with two underground lines and numerous buses. It is also only 10/15 minutes walk from Liverpool Street with more underground lines and an endless number of buses. Take the No. 11 bus from Liverpool Street all the way to the Houses of Parliament and sit on the top deck - the bus goes past many of the places you would see on an Open Tour Bus and you get that for the price of a bus ticket. Brick Lane is on the edge of the City of London and all the tourists attractions are easily accessible. Having experienced this location, I would not want to stay anywhere else in the future.
Carlos was great to deal with, he answered all my emails by return, gave me clear instructions as to how to get to the apartment and was there to greet me and explain everything. He is very friendly and trustworthy. I will definitely book his apartment again next time I wish to visit London for a few days.

“Fantastic Location and great flat!”

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon last week, and found it a great base for a lot of London exploring! We arrived on the Sunday and arranged a time to meet Carlos at the flat, which we found easily after looking on Google Maps beforehand. The block was very secure, with a electronic key to enter the gate, and again to enter the actual building. The flat was lovely and clean and tidy and Carlos was very welcoming and helpful, showing us around before he left. The tube station is a 2 minute walk away from the flat which is great if you're planning on doing a lot of sight-seeing. It was relatively quiet, except for the Friday night, on which a large party was thrown on the roof of one of the buildings opposite, leading to loud music being played until 4am. Of course this was one of the perils of being in London though, and it didn't affect us too much.
There is a Tesco Express just on the main street, and we found a large Sainsbury's superstore a 15 minute walk from the flat which was great.
Overall, a wonderful flat and definite value for money, as much better staying in your own place for a week rather than a hotel!
