Friends of ours who eat out in central London regularly, and have always raved about this place invited us for lunch. They do not have to worry about what seemed to be a good 3 course deal, so we chose from the main menu.
They thought the food was excellent, but, frankly, we were far from mpressed.
We both started with soup. The butternut squash was described as "ok, but not as good as we make at home" and the fish soup was really disappointing. Little flavour, just two mussels, one small prawn, and a small square of fish, with a little veg. At £14 if we ever go again, we won't be having that dish.
Our hosts almost insisted we had the "best burgers they had ever had". We both chose the one with pulled pork and jalapeño Mayo. Neither was over evident. They were cooked ok, medium rare as asked, but we have certainly had much better.
No-one went for desserts, but coffee at £4.50 was probably as expensive as we have ever seen.
As expected, drinks were expensive, and service (with a 12 1/2% service charge) was really good.
Would probably go again, just to try the fixed pice menu, but would avoid otherwise.
Difficult to rate. 5 for service, no more for 3 for food, and 1 for value.
