Description: Renowned throughout London and beyond, Petrus is one of the biggest names on the restaurant scene. With the world-renowned Gordon Ramsay behind the scheme to raise Petrus - now located on Knightsbridge's Kinnerton Street - from the ashes, the restaurant exudes the famous Ramsay sense of luxury combined with down-to-earth charm. Decorated in subtle tones of champagne, oyster and copper along with the claret red which inspired the restaurant's name, Petrus's beguiling interior is superbly decadent and romantic and actually quite intimate. In the kitchen, Head Chef Larry Jayasekara is creating its trademark modern French menu. At Petrus the highest-quality ingredients go into dishes that combine delicious familiar flavours with unique presentation. Expect waves of divine amuse-bouches and a stupendous wine list, including a long list of vintages of Petrus to make it all perfect.

If you are looking for fine dining then look no further, this was certainly my highlight of the trip to London for the weekend.
Whenever I go out for a meal, the main things I would always look out for are: food a bit different from elsewhere, quality of food cooked, service and certainly the atmosphere. Although a bit pricey, I think every penny was well spent on this once in a while experience.

“Outstanding!”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

We had a wonderful special lunch here. Outstanding value at £30 per head with lots of freebies and entre courses thrown in. Service is excellent - we hadn't requested it but the waiter found out it was our anniversary and presented us with a little celebration cake plate at the end of the meal. Wine prices can be high but it is possible to eat some of the finest food in London for relatively little money. The room is pretty and cosy. Go if you can1

“Excellent meal , friendly staff ,hard to fault”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

We ate the £30 lunch menu here, it really is exceptionally good food and fantastic value for money. The ingredients were all top quality, portions were very large , flavours fantastic and we had plenty of little extra amuse bouche. Staff are all young and really friendly, there is a nice atmosphere not at all stuffy. I really cannot think of a single fault cant wait to go back in the evening

“Outstanding”

The service was flawless; the food was exquisite; the Sommelier’s recommendations were superb. The Chef’s complementary dishes (include an amuse-bouche, a salad appetiser, mini hand-made ‘Cornetto’ style ice creams, and Armagnac ice cream) were delicious and beautifully complemented the main dishes.

Particularly impressive was inquiring to allergy and dietary preferences prior to commencement of dining, and the attention shown to accommodating these throughout.

“If Carlsberg did restaurants . . . .”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

Went to Petrus in April 2012 for my birthday dinner. Now I know she loves me!

My big fear with top-tier restaurants is that the delicately arranged portions can leave me wanting more - and sometimes looking for a kebab on the way home. Nothing like that at Petrus - just blindingly good food with plenty of extras - a mix of breads, amuse bouche, petit fours and small experiments from the chef's mind between the main events and we counted eleven courses.

Sure, some were just novelities, but the quality and presentation was simply outstanding. We especially fell for the miniature ice cream cones with angel dust in (the confectionery, not the drug!). The chocolate balls served in a bowl of dry ice was also very impressive. I had the lamb, which was beautifully cooked (unlike recent experiences in the US, where they won't serve it unless a vet could revive it).

Don't worry that most menu items have a mention of something slightly odd - bits of snail or smears of liquorice - as this has no detrimental effect on the dishes. They're just sublime.

At £65 for the three course prix fixe, it's very good value. The wine list is a bit scary (it's like a phone book) and some of the eponymous Petrus can be £50,000 a throw. But there's good quality stuff for £50 a bottle, which is fine for a retaurant of this standing.

While the service is very good, you always get the impression that they know it's all a bit of a show and there's no actual pretension about it - the guys know that they are there to make your experience the best it can be and pull out the stops to be very good without impacting on your meal.

The restaurant's main visual feature is a massive cylindrical perspex/glass wine cellar in the middle of the dining area, which is hugely impressive.

For me, the icing on the cake was the offer to tour the kitchen and meet the chef. It's quite a compact kitchen, but there are no tantrums or shouting (despite being a Ramsey establishment), just a quiet efficiency and pride in the great job they're doing. Next time, we will try and book the chef's table at the side of the kitchen and get to make our own desserts!

Our bill (for two) came to just under £200 - which seems a lot but was actually exceptional value for the whole experience. Along with Gary Rhodes in Tower 42, this is now my joint favourite eating place in London.
