Had the most amazing experience ever. I went to many hotels for dinner, but this has to be the best so far. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, the drinks were fab. They even have halal food. They gave us a gift before we left. The waiters were so nice. Can’t wait to go again.

We booked a table for three in the Foyer and Reading Room on a Sunday evening. The doormen were cursory but once we arrived at the restaurant, service was exemplary. We had a bottle of Provence Rose in the bar first and this was very pleasant with some nice 'nibbles'. The bar was busy with a lively atmosphere and the wine very good. Our table for dinner was in the Reading Room area which is atmospheric and quality. A pianist and double bass player were providing live music in the Foyer that drifted in to the Reading Room. We had had Sunday brunch earlier at the Bluebird restaurant so weren't starving, therefore we started with the Chef's canapés that we could share. This gave us four tastes each, the stand out canapés being the tempura prawns with hoisin sauce and avocado boat that was served in a small pastry case. I personally really enjoyed the duck spring roll too but my daughter and wife found them 'too' meaty, I was happy to polish them off!! The fourth canapé was a cornet filled with smoked salmon mousse. Delicious warm bread found its way to the table and we were ready for our main course. Both my daughter and I went for the Dover Sole that appeared to be two fillets that had been put one on top of the other and chargrilled. This meant that the sole was thick and delicious without swimming in butter which is normally the case, but hey, I like Dover Sole cooked that way too. My wife opted for a superfood salad that featured on the lunch menu and it was no problem providing this for her. We accompanied the mains with cauliflower cheese that was delicious and truffle fries - somewhat expensive at £12.50p a shot but it was a generous portion. The meal was accompanied by two bottles of very drinkable Chablis and we all left well wined and dined. It isn't cheap by any means but the atmosphere, decent food and outstanding service resulted in a quality evening. There are so many good restaurants in London that we probably wouldn't put it high on our agenda to rush back next time we are in London, but I am certainly pleased we visited last night to enjoy the elegance and customer focussed service.

Dear Bob1949,

Thank you for taking the time to comprehensively review your recent visit to the Foyer and Reading Room. I was delighted to read on all accounts from the bar through to your main course that it has been overall a positive and enjoyable experience. I will of course be sharing your wonderful comments with both the restaurant and culinary teams. I do note that the welcome from the doorman has been somewhat frosty and lacking in detail. I will of course be passing your constructive comments to our head doorman. I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back on a return visit.

Best wishes,

Jim Lyons

As a frequent client of Claridge's, I had the most unpleasant experience of visiting the Foyer for breakfast and lunch to try out the new menu, little to realise the dining horrors that would unfold. I ordered my usual vegetarian omelette for breakfast and it was so sloppy and ghastly beyond recognition of the previous standards, I asked the waiter to do another one but it was even worse this time as it was way overcooked and inedible beyond recognition and he arrogantly insisted that he would charge me for it!!!! I then unfortunately and foolishly proceeded to order lunch and ordered my usual sirlion steak, and when it arrived around half an hour later much to my absolute horror it was a steak fillet that was so dried up and chewy and resembled and tasted like a shoe even though I ordered it medium rare!!!! I asked the waiter to do it again but was presented with the same utterly ghastly inedible meal and he then again insisted that he would charge me for it!!!! I ended up paying a total of £80 and left HUNGRY and SICK with extreme STOMACH PAINS!!!! Please people be fully aware of this greedy and unjust establishment that do their best in only trying to rip you off rather than providing you with a luxury and memorable experience, as sadly and most unfortunately since the introduction of their new menu the quality and standard of food has rapidly diminished as with their price increases and I would have been better off on buying a £1 sandwich from Sainsbury's!! AVOID AVOID AVOID fellow readers and prospective diners the most revolting & GHASTLY experience that I endured just yesterday!! .
