Reliably the same as it's been for years. The beer is always well-kept, with traditional bitters - Batemans's XB and Taylor's Landlord, and guest beers of the modern "golden" variety. Good lagers. Outside of lunch hours (12-2:30ish), good filled rolls and pork pies very reasonably priced. One long bar, sometimes hard to squeeze through and another snug bar. Outside in good weather, the view of the Castle is superb. Popular with families on sunny weekend afternoons. The only bad aspect is the threadbare and stained seating. Bar staff are young and friendly.
