“Holiday Inn Express Lincoln”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

Modern hotel 10 minutes walk from city centre. Rooms Ok for space, but storage space poor. water pressure in shower also poor. Decent flat screen TV. Hidden charge of £5 per night car parking. Also have to pay if you want broadband in your room. Don't really expect that anymore. Worst aspect here is the food. Breakfast mish mash of English and continental Hot breakfast is only dodgy sausages, beans and scrambled eggs kept in a hot cabinet. Nothing else. Dinner is a choice of about 3 frozen pizzas or about 6 "ding" meals. Ding? Freezer, microwave, "ding", there's your dinner. Very poor quality at inflated prices, even for a hotel. On the night of my arrival, I was told that there was no dinner service for guests owing to a function. Staff couldn't seem to have cared less. I'd been booked in by my company on a DB&B basis, yet the hotel was unable to meet the booked services. No one could offer any sort of explanation for that. I'll not be using the chain again. Give me Premier Inn every time.

Thank you for your review. Feedback is one of the key ways we can improve our service to our guests. I will try and feedback on each issue.
I will have maintenance investigate your water pressure problems as the hotel has power showers in all rooms and the intensity can be altered on the showerhead its self. Regarding car parking to enable us to not discriminate between people who travel to the hotel using public transport the hotel like many in the city does make a discounted charge for parking which is at a premium due to our city centre location it is however stated on all of our web sites, confirmations and the entrance to the car park. I'm sorry if you where unaware of the charge. While we do charge for High speed cabled internet in the bedrooms we also offer free Wi-Fi in our public areas for guests.
Holiday Inn Express always includes breakfast at no extra charge over the past year we have constantly reviewed our offering from what was a continental selection to one which as you state now includes three hot items and over 15 different products.
I’m sorry the night you checked in there was no dinner service due to a private function however realising you had dinner included we offered a selection of different menus for you and informed you we would have the food delivered to the hotel and plated for you. Our normal menu is as part of our brand limited but offers starters, mains and desserts with many popular favourites comparably priced with the local market.

Great value for money, we paid £49.50 a night for a room with double bed and sofa bed so could have had 4 people, (although would have been very squashed). But for one night on a night out would have been excellent value for money.

Free breakfast, self service which was nice.

The room was clean and bathroom adequate

The only down side of this hotel is that it is a little further away from centre then the rest of the hotels , (but only 10 minutes walk) but lets face it for the price worth the walk.

Room Tip: Go for one with sofa bed as you get chair to sit on

The Holiday Inn Express in Lincoln is a modern hotel. All very new and looking good. Whilst providing a budget price, this is definitely a cut above a Travelodge. The rooms are nicely fitted out and quite stylish and the big plus, breakfast is included.
This hotel is on a major road junction, but there was little traffic noise in the room. Closeby are a number of fast-food type restaurants and an out-of-town shopping centre. A five minute walk to the "High Street" and there is a Wetherspoons (The Ritz) just around the corner, whilst even nearer is a buffet style Chinese restaurant (YoYo in Beijing).
The walk into the old town for the Cathedral and Castle takes probably around half an hour, and is uphill most of the way (including the very aptly named "Steep Hill"). You can get to the modern shopping area more quickly and the railway station is around 10 minutes walk away. A little out of the way in the evenings, but otherwise ok. Very convenient to get to/from by car as well, as dont' have to fight through city centre traffic.
The breakfast is a help-yourself buffet, with cereals, yoghurt, bread, croissants, cheese, fruit and cooked items (sausage, scrambled egg and baked beans). No bacon for some reason. Whilst busy, there was never too long a queue and always sufficient seating. All the food selections were kept well topped up.
The hotel has it's own carpark - £5 charge per day or £4 if you are a Priority Club member.
