“Surprised.”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

My wife & I have just returned from staying 2 nights at the Savoy, and reading some of the comments prior to our stay criticizing the hotel I am surprised by the negative comments.
We attended a lunch on the Sunday, the food good as were all the meals while we were there, the breakfast buffet eat what you want plenty of choice, all the staff very friendly & professional. We booked 2 nights from Travelzoo bb/em plus a bottle of wine £98, great value, our room was adequate clean no view only frosted glass but we only wanted somewhere to sleep & it fit the bill. We hope to return again in December I hope they have the same offer on, if a better room is required you can pay a bit extra, I travelled the world whilst doing my work, paid good money for fancy hotels, the service & rooms have not match the price the Savoy is good.

We stayed here for a couple of days to celebrate my partners birthday and were pleasantly surprised. It'san old hotel with some very attractive features and some modern extras. Didn't expect to have a whirlpool bath in a hotel in this price/age range. Plenty of really hot water too to enable making the most of it! Food was gnerally good and nicely served attractively at dinner and buffet breakfast was great, lots of fresh hot food and a fair selection of continental items too. Unfortunately coffee was truly dreadful

Cant really understand why there are so many negative reviews for this place. OK, the furniture in the rooms is looking a bit tired but, hell, for 30 quid a night with a buffet breakfast what do people expect?

I thought it was good value, not 5 star, but then youre not paying a 5 star price for it.

Huge hotel with ONE outdated lift which carries a maximum of 3 persons, so getting to upper floors is a nightmare if you have any diffuculty in walking and unable to climb the stairs you have to queue for ages to get in the lift, especially at mealtimes. The barmaid did not smile for the whole of our 4 day stay, and the female restaurant staff where very rude, unhelpful and downright cheeky , we ALWAYS leave a tip but not in this case i am afraid, ( even though they left a tip dish by the door !) the service was too bad. Other people in our party had no bath towels which only materialised after THREE times of contacting reception, we arrived back late one night( after seeking some decent entertainment as the resident entertainer is awful), in the pouring rain and it took us 10 minutes to get someone to answer our buzzer so we got soaked to the skin! Suffice it to say we would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The best thing about the hotel was....leaving .

We just came back from a one night stay with two children, 4 & 1.... Room was comfortable could do with a clean though..bed very comfy and location fine...food was fine...could be better though...think Gordon Ramsay would have a few complaints....other than that It's grand...your not going to spend a lot of time in a hotel anyway with young children and there is so much to do along the front...view was great..looked right out to sea!
