One of the best places I've ever stayed! Very friendly and welcoming hosts.

We stayed in room 8, which was an attic room. Quirky styled room, clean, and comfortable bed. We slept well. Extra pillows and blanket available in the room if needed. There's also a hair dryer and small fridge, and tea/coffee making facilities. There's a small TV with DVD player. The only issue with this room is the very small bathroom which was difficult to manoeuvre in and we are both average sized. The sink is outside the bathroom which was fine, but just found it a bit of a squeeze in the toilet/shower area. This is explained in the confirmation email before arriving and does give option to swap rooms, however this was only room available at the time so we had to make do. Samples of homemade cakes are left in the rooms to try too (and can also purchase to take home). You can request more items for your room such as toilet roll, tea bags, clean towels etc, but they mainly leave you to it instead of daily housekeeping - Fine by us personally. Sometimes it's a bit awkward when a maid is in your room at the same time as you!

The breakfast is lovely! Had both cooked breakfast and tried the blueberry pancakes. Both fantastic! Food is either homemade or locally produced/sourced. There's also homemade jam and marmalade to sample which you can also purchase (which we did of course!) Plenty of choice too. This is brought out to you rather than being left on the side now, due to limiting movement around the room with Covid still around. This was no issue - Caroline was more than accommodating with anything you wanted and would bring it to you.

The location is perfect. It is on a main road, but be careful when pulling in to the car park, as it is quite tight if full as it's only small. You are right by the train station and bus station. Behind Rockside you have a bike hire shop. And you are also right by a popular walk up Orrest Head which gives you a lovely view of Windermere from the hills, which also starts just outside Rockside.

You are just on the edge of Windermere town too, plus a few bars a stones throw away. My must visit places are The Little Ice Cream shop (the biggest and best ice cream!), The Crafty Baa (A lovely quirky bar, with live singers and big cheese boards to share), and The Smith, another quirky bar with lovely pizza. Bowness is also not far away, and walkable, but gets extremely busy! Windermere is a little quieter.

Caroline and Martin have plenty of knowledge of the area though and also include guides in your rooms with things to do, places to eat, walks to go on etc. Anything you need, just ask! There is also a bookcase with books, DVDs and walking guides too on the first floor. The only thing I would suggest, is if you have limited mobility, request a room with less stairs to them as there are a fair few steps throughout the building to each room.

We had a wonderful stay, perfect location for everything we did, and we would definitely stay again.

Our stay at Rockside was simply wonderful. The room is very cosy and has a very comfortable bed. The breakfasts are so tasty and the baked goods gifted to us were just a cherry on top. It has the perfect location and atmosphere for a visit to the Lake District. It is right at the heart of the main town (Windermere), sharing in its picturesque atmosphere.

Caroline and Martin run Rockside with heart and warmth, which made this an exceptionally lovely stay :) Our trip to the lake simply wouldn’t have been the same without Rockside to come back to after busy days out !

A lovely B & B in a good location.
The hosts are lovely and welcoming with the addition of daily home cooked cake treat to return to after a days mooching what's not to like.
Our room ( no. 10) was spacious with the advantage of a separate seating area to relax in.
The breakfast choice is excellent, full english to yogurts and home made jams which are fab ,to set you up for the day.
We used the local transport which is plentyful and reasonably priced to get around , its all available close to Rockside so it can make a change from driving everywhere.
The boat trips on Windermere are also a nice way to get to places , relaxing and fabulous scenery.
Its lovely place to stay and will return in the future .
Thanks to Caroline and Martin for being good hosts , your guest house is lovely.
Good luck going forward to you both.

Thanks for the review . Our cakes are one of the more popular features of staying with us at Rockside and something which we love to do. Nice to hear they were appreciated

Would love to see you again if ever back in Windermere

Me and my Girlfriend recently stayed at this lovely little guest house. The hosts were very warm welcoming and easy going, down to earth couple who really make you feel at home with little homemade complimentary cakes left outside your room for example.. They even got me liking jam which is also homemade .

Can't recommend this place enough if you are planning a nice little get away to the Lakes.

Room tip: Try the homemade jam 😋

Thanks for the review . We do try to create a home from home environment and glad this is how you found us. So many people tell us they are converted to jam and marmalade after trying ours....it is just so different to the ones which are available in the shops.
Love to see you again if you are back in our part of the world

We only stayed 3 nights as opposed to the 4 we had booked due to an unexpected issue at home. The Guest House was ideally situated with only a short walk to pubs and restaurants along with approx 25 min walk to Bowness. Good car parking facilities - no problems parking. No issues with traffic alongside at times a busy road. The breakfasts were stunning!!! It is worth booking just for this!! Didn't really meet Martin but at breakfast time, Caroline was the most cheerful host you would wish to meet. Bedroom was ok, a little small but for how long we spent in the room it did not matter. Staircase was a little 'tight' with cases but we managed. Service was brilliant, additional towels requested arrive on time along with the 'treats' (cakes etc). Nothing was too much bother to ensure we had a brilliant stay. Recommendations for pubs and restaurants were very good. We had a great 3 days in the Lakes - it had been quite a number of years since to were there. I would certainly recommend Rockside without any hesitation.
