When we arrived we were welcomed very enthusiastically by Catherine who showed us around the hotel and even carried our bags to our room. The hotel is charming and full of character. Our bedroom had a four poster bed which was very comfortable and a seating area with fireplace which was very nice because my son and his Fiancé joined us there for pre-dinner drinks. The view from our room was spectacular overlooking the lake and surrounding hills. We were provided with dressing gowns and slippers which is always nice.
We booked the Gourmet menu and were not disappointed. The food and service was excellent albeit expensive at £88.00 per head plus wine, however we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it if you are a "foodie".
We booked our trip via Secret Escapes and felt that the accommodation was good value when comparing prices on other booking websites. All the staff were very helpful and courteous and if we found another good deal would definitely return.

Room tip: Room 20 Was very nice although the window was small

Just returned home after staying 3 nights at Holbeck Ghyll , our accommodation was in a 3 bedroom bungalow with a hot tub and stunning views over the lake. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were taken up to our accommodation and shown round this was followed by a phone call to make sure we were happy with everything excellent service. The staff were very nice , polite , friendly and couldn't do enough for us . Breakfast was very good we looked forward to it every morning. We didn't eat in the restaurent for dinner as we explored different restaurants in Ambleside. Only negative the tv had only 2 channels and the reception was very poor at times. Would highly recommend a stay here .

Room tip: Recommend Ghyll side 3 bedroom bungalow with hot tub

The hotel went above and beyond to ensure that our trip went smoothly, providing a awesome room with a huge bathroom away from the main hotel. The food in the main restaurant was fantastic, and the spa very relaxing - can definitely recommend a massage. Really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

I have just returned from yet another great stay at the Holbeck Ghyll. The service was excellent, the staff courteous, polite and helpful and, as ever, the food amazing!

As my online name suggests I actually live in the USA but frequently return to the UK. Living in the US gives you a true understanding of what genuinely good customer service is, Many UK hotels & restaurants don't even come close but "HG" delivers on every level and I could not recommend this place enough!
