Had a great time here. Very comfortable room and the staff were great, so friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful, a good choice and always served with a smile. I can recommend this hotel, the only down side is the lack of a lift, but they do have a stairlift.

Staff were pleasant but food was shocking! How difficult is it to perfect a sandwich ? The bread was a day away from being fresh and fillings were sparse. The coffee was distinctly average. These are basic items which should be spot on. Difficult to find anything positive to say except that the staircase is impressive

This hotel is very popular and you can see why. It is located right in the centre of the town. Lovely historic old town. The hotel is a traditional old fashioned hotel with lots of character. Food was very good and service also. There is no lift so be aware. Also when we stayed in a room at the front there was a lot of noise on the Main Street. If you like quiet then ask for a room at the back.

this review concerns the dining amenities of the hotel rather than the accommodation experience. the George is Penrith's oldest hotel dating back to the 18 century and even had the honour of Bonnie Prince Charlie of Scotland as a guest on his way south to conquer England in the 1740's.The Hotel has a comfortable traditional feel and is popular with visitors and locals alike - it is smartly furnished and you are served by uniformed staff. The dining room is famous for it's traditional Sunday lunches(roast beef with trimmings )and often combines an entertainment to accompany the meal (jazz group etc)The area near the front of the Hotel is known for it's afternoon teas and morning coffees (with cakes ) - but the most interesting place to dine is the bar(rear of the hotel) the menu here is varied from pasta dishes to fish and chips - drinks are expertly served from a beer to cocktails and service is friendly. The bar has recently been refurbished and the modern decor does not detract from the cosy log fire in the corner.
