“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

Judith and Zeke are very welcoming to this traditional guesthouse, situated a short walk from the village centre with great views of Coniston Old Man from the rear facing rooms. The beds are very comfortable and breakfast is plentiful and of a high standard. Judith will even make up a packed lunch at a reasonable price. I have stayed several times already and will be staying again in March.I would recommend Oaklands to anyone who like to stay in a home from home.

Six of us stayed here for 4 nights over New Year and we were all very comfortable in fairly spacious and spotlessly clean rooms.Breakfast was standard for a B and B and the ingredients were of a high quality.
There was plenty of information available including lots of maps and, had the weather been better, the B and B is ideally placed for several excellent walks.
I have a constructive criticism to make: the weather was vile with high winds and torrential rain each day and it would have been good to have had use of a drying facility. We all returned soaking wet and muddy each day and did not really like taking this gear up to our bedrooms but there was no alternative.

Overall a pleasant stay with a few minor niggles. The room was clean (peach coloured room) and spacious with an excellent view to the rear.My partner and i found the room very cold even after we pulled the curtains to.there was a spot of damp on the rear facing walls ...nothing major though. The shower was useless and the pressure non existant.Worst was the banging of the old style pull cord windows in the wind . I didnt sleep well at all and the noise from the dog , other guests and downstairs was quite loud due to the gaps around the door !! breakfast was ok and oaklands is only a short walk to the pubs and shop.Price was reasonable £180 for a 3 night stay.

We stopped for one night during the classic cumbria way walk in this beautiful little guesthouse, we were welcomed by a very nice lady (probably the mother of the owner) and she showed us this beautiful confortable room with a very nice bed and a great view of the mountains, Just outside of our window dozens of multicolored little birds were eating from a generous "seeds self service" and this was a plus to this already gorgeus accomodation. The morning break fast was very good and generous. A great little place to stay one night or spend few days.
