This is the 4th year that we have stayed with Brenda and David at Lakeside in June and find it hard to consider going anywhere else in the area. Great service, marvellous breakfasts and such a nice setting. They even provided bright sunny weather for our entire stay this year.
We were well looked after from an email the week before telling us what was playing at the local rep (in June and July the Grassmere players generally have a good play on) to giving advise on the local area for visits and walks. Our rooms were comfortable and we had views over the garden and river. The lounge on the ground floor is welcoming and spacious and has enough reading material on the area to satisfy most people.
The location is ideal being just far enough away from the town centre to be quiet and have good access to the fells behind the house. In less than 15 mins you can be away from everything on the walk up to Loughhrigg. The town is just a 15 minute walk over the river and through the park, the shops are pretty good, choices for eating very extensive for the size of the place.
The Hotel seems to cater well for all, from the young to the not so, from serious walkers, to amblers, to tourists and to people like ourselves, who want to do a small bit of all of that and love the area and the change of pace it offers.
