We booked a last minute holiday in Ambleside - I checked out tripadviser for all kinds of accommodation and stumbled across ‘blue hill cottage’ and decided to book. I am so glad i did. My boyfriend and i had a lovely time.

It was our first trip to Ambleside and we did not really know what to expect. On arriving at the cottage i was struck by the lovely view on top of the hill and even took a minute to admire the cute cobbled street leading up to the front door (much to the annoyance of my boyfriend who had driven from scotland and just wanted to get in the cottage).

The cottage is about a 5 minute walk, uphill, from the heart of Ambleside. The hill is fairly steep and can feel like a mountain after a nightcap or two. Other than that i would say the location was ideal. It is very central and i think it would be a maximum 10minute walk to any of the shops, restaurants and to waterfront. There are good transport links to the rest of the lake district.

The kitchen was well stocked and we were delighted to find washing up liquid as thats something we had forgotten. There is a coal fire which would be lovely in the winter - a little bit of me was upset the weather was so nice that we didn’t need to have it on during our stay. The cottage was clean and had everything you could need during your stay.

All in all, we had the most delightful stay in this cosy little cottage and would book again if visiting Ambleside - which i think we will. We took another reviews advice and spread ourselves put by used the second bedroom as a dressing area. We did that because we had the luxury of having a spare room but the cottage can happily hold 4. Communications with the owner were good which made the whole process really easy and enjoyable.

“Clean, cosy, terraced cottage 5 mins walk from Ambleside walks, shops and restaurants.”

This is a 2 bedroom terraced cottage a short walk downhill to Ambleside, which has lots of facilities including shops, restaurants and the bus stop for Windermere, Coniston, Haweshead and more destinations. We like to use local shops rather than big chains and would recommend Granny Smiths grocery shop (good range of gluten free food) and the butchers next to the Coop (gluten free sausages. The cottage has two comfortable sofas in the lounge, and a small dining table under the stairs. The stairs are steep and narrow. Fast, reliable WiFi. Decent shower. The cottages have a shared back yard and there is one allocated parking space on the shared driveway. The view from the driveway across Loughrigg is stunning. We loved the location for the walks and bus trips we could do from the front door, and the great choice of restaurants in Ambleside (Lucy's gluten-free puddings are to die for, and the Italian, Zefferelli's, was excellent value and offered gluten free pizza). The cottage provided everything we needed to enjoy a week's holiday in Ambleside.
