“Superb stay!”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

I stayed at the falstaff with my partner and parents as we were visiting the beer festival. It is in a fantastic location and wasn't far from the bus station that we used to get to the beer festival.
The rooms were huge and had coffee/tea facilities inside. My dad is a regular here so we got welcome back chocolates which i thought was a lovely touch. The bed was the most comfortable bed i have ever stayed in, better than the one i have at home!
The bathroom was clean and had a lovely shower. The reception staff were great, very friendly indeed. The breakfast was buffet style which was fine and very tasty. There was a choice of a fry up or cereal and they also had toast on the go too. They only had scrambled egg (along with bacon, mushrooms etc) but we asked if it was possible to have a fried egg and they were more than happy to do this for us.
Parking wasn't a problem as there were plenty of spaces at the back of the hotel.
The only thing i thought was odd was that the bar shut at 11pm (on a friday night) but the lady on reception very kindly said if we wanted a drink she was happy to get it for us, so made us think maybe the bar should just stay open for a while! A very minor gripe as the hotel really is superb.
It was such a lovely stay we're going to book to come back next year!
Definately book it i thoroughly recommend it!

Our first trip to Canterbury and we were thrilled with the accommodation. Being over 700 years old you don't expect the mod cons but we were pleasantly surprised by all the inclusions. Location couldn't better, staff couldn't have been friendlier and the price was more than reasonable. Would highly recommend this establishment.

Room Tip: I'm not sure about accessibility for the less-abled. Probably worth a check first. Tall people...

Falstaff Hotel rates 101% because: (a) NICEST personnel behind the desk. Kind, genuinely happy, helpful, gracious (b) hotel room itself wonderful, Olde English type but COMFORTABLE with all modern conveniences; plus comfy bed, good lighting by which to read, nice street view out the window, and big clean bathroom, lots of hot water, good pressure, etc. (c) downstairs, the hotel itself has so many picturesque nooks and crannies, geraniums spilling out of window boxes. At night there's a bar where you can grab a drink, and good wifi reception and (d) breakfast delicious with fruit, eggs etc in sunny dining room. Overall, staying at the Falstaff was an "A"-rated experience, and I can't wait to go back.

I used to live in the area, so I decided to stay in a central location in Canterbury and had booked the hotel mostly for the price. I had expected a slightly scruffy place. I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the hotel, for the price. It is a 16th Century coaching inn and full of character. The hotel had more rooms than I expected. Our room was in a courtyard at the back of the hotel, which was very quiet. The staff, particularly on the reception were very helpful and friendly. It is difficult to find though as it is on a one way street.

we were put in the annexe, told it is just across the yard behind the tree, no one offered to help us find the room or to take our cases. Self service breakfast, bacon looked and tasted like cardboard and most of the food was nearly cold. No hot water on our second day, when we reported this we were told no one else has complained but when we checked out it seems there had been a problem with the boiler but no recompense or apology. Will not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: no tips I would not stay there again
