“Do Not Hesitate to Stay Here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2012

When I made my reservation at the House of Agnes I was concerned about the noise level since I am sensitive to noise and there had been some adverse comment in Trip Advisor reviews about the sound of the trains going near the stable bloc. I need not have been worried. We were in the stable bloc and infrequently heard the trains. The sound was neither loud nor disturbing. The room was clean and well-appointed, and when we arrived unexpectedly early Sandie changed room assignments so that we could move right in. The Kentish breakfast was locally sourced (the butcher is across the street) which may have contributed to its being as good as it is. The House is Agnes is well located for seeing Canterbury and less than a ten-minute walk from the Canterbury West train station.

We stayed in one of the external rooms in the garden of House of Agnes three months ago. We visited Canterbury because of our 12.5 year wedding anniversary and really loved our stay in this hotel. The hosts were very friendly indeed, and they made our stay very comfortable.
Also the city center is situated at just two minutes walking distance.

The room was very nicely decorated with a comfortable bed and a fine bathroom. The one negative aspect I would like to mention is the proximity to the railway. You will hear (and feel) trains passing by every now and then, and if you want to avoid that, it is better to have a room in the hotel at the front.

In the hotel, they serve an award winning breakfast, and I have to say, it was an amazing breakfast. They only use local produce for ingredients, and what they serve is quite impressive. We will most surely use this hotel again when going back to Canterbury!

We were pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome we received and the staff were so helpful and caring.
Our room in the Stable was really really nice, the bathroom was excellent, and all normal facilities we required were to hand.
We peeked into the rooms of the main house, and were most impressed by the attention to deatail of the furnishings, in relation to the room names.
The full Kentish breakfast was excellent, aa was the cold buffet.
We will certainly stay there again, on our next rip to Canterbury.
Excellent value for money

I don't very often give full marks, but the House of Agnes really is a great place to stay !
Together with colleagues, I have stayed in Canterbury many times and haven't yet found anywhere which can match the value of this place. The rooms are very clean and well appointed ( stayed in the stable block). The main building has a great deal of old world charm, the staff are excellent, polite and efficient. The breakfast is great, and the garden is fantastic. it's not very often you find a comfortable efficient hotel, in such a lovely setting ! If you want to stay in the centre of Canterbury, you won't do better than this.

I am acutely aware that there are other options for accommodation in Canterbury. However I believe that there are four categories that are critical 1) a very comfortable bed 2) a nice hot, powerful shower 3) high levels of cleanliness and 4) excellent customer service. I like to think that my team and I have got those aspects right!
The fact that we offer a high quality, locally sourced, fresh breakfast, free WiFi ...all wrapped up in tons of character and quirkiness, hopefully means that we will always be a popular choice when staying in Canterbury.
We are very grateful to our reviewers and thank you all for such amazingly kind and generous comments!
Kind regards, Sandie

We had a great time at House of Agnes. Really appreciated the little touches (free water, biscuits, tea facilities, bathroom essentials and an umbrella, as well as earplugs -more on that later) and the cleanliness was spectacular (it's great to feel you're the first to ever use the bathroom. Not something you see everywhere!)
The room itself was furnished nicely, with flatscreen tv and a nice comfy bed with 2 types of pillow.

The minus point for us was the noisy neighbours, who had a 'yearly reunion' in their room up until 1am (why they didn't go to the bar area for their chat, we'll never know). Thankfully, there were some earplugs provided, but the walls are rather slim (we had a stables room).

Unfortunately, you cannot choose your neighbours on a specific night, but other than this, we rate this hotel as one of the best we have visited in the UK. Forgot to mention the breakfast, which was fab (had a double poached egg the first day, which arrived very quickly and a full Kentish breakfast the 2nd day. While it was very indulgent, it was cooked very nicely -no extra fat as it felt oven roasted and the ingredients were of really good quality -super sausages and bacon and a great orange juice with pulp). :)

Highly recommended. The staff were very friendly (the owner speaks v good French too, which is a nice touch). Also, they have a bar area (that we didn't go to, but it's also a nice touch).

Room Tip: Stables room are not insulated to noise, so avoid if you can. In Canterbury, we visited the 'ho...
