Reviewed 4 August 2008

If your thinking where t go then the iow is a must. There is plenty to do. We went to Black Gang Chine, Colemans farm, Needles. We came across a pub called the Horse and Groom it did great food and also had a bouncy castlse a play area and a carazy golf. And on the last day we found a play area called JR'S again a graet time enjoyed by our 2 young children.

“Isle of Wight - Who'd have thought it!?”
Reviewed 23 July 2008

The Isle of Wight was our holiday destination merely due to circumstance: a friend's wedding was being held there, and we thought to extend the trip a couple of days to see what the Isle had to offer.

We were shocked, in a great way. We never expected to have such a fantastic time. The weather was, luckily, gorgeous, and for the most part we felt as if we had hopped a plane to Greece of Spain. The docks and the beaches were fabulous, and the villages, pubs and shops were quaint. It was refreshing to drive all the way around the island and only see one McDonald's and Tesco Extra! There was plenty to see and do. Blackgang Chine, although marketed mainly for kids, was amazing! If you are young at heart, I would definitely recommend it. And most of the sight-seeing opportunities were not over priced or superficial. The Coloured Sands were lovely on a hot day, and we thoroughly enjoyed the ski-lift up and down the cliff (£4 return - probably a lot more of an extravagence if you have a few kids to pay for as well mind).

The only thing I could say hindered our enjoyment of our break was the accommodation:

It was well kept, comfortable, and the breakfast was very nice.
However, the hosts - a middle aged couple who, on first meeting, seemed welcoming - managed to make us feel as if we were imposing on their happy, humdrum lives for the whole time we were there.

The male was quite abrupt and rude at times, and the female umm'd and ahhh'd her way to telling us that she had 'quite enough to do' as it was, and that she would like to service our rooms every day regardless, and would basically like us out by 10.30am so that she could do this, despite the fact we had stipulated that we did not need our rooms to be serviced on two of the days (so did not feel embarrassed to leave 'things' lying where we left them when in a hurry).

Although this doesn't seem like a huge problem, it made us feel uncomfortable there, and we did find that things we would have prefered not to have been touched or moved had been, on a daily basis - which was quite invasive.

On top of this, one of our party accidently got a mark on the bed spread, and the deposit of £50 that we all had to pay upon booking, was used to cover the cost of cleaning. This is a situation I have never experienced before in any hotel, and we were all quite outraged by it.

What I would conclude from this is: The St. George's House Hotel is the perfect destination for 'Monica's' or anyone who isn't looking to enjoy themselves too much!

Thankfully, apart from the slight dread of bumping into the housekeepers, and the loss of £50 for one of our party, everything else about our holiday was superb.

I would most definitely recommend the Isle of Wight to families, couples of all ages, and groups of friends out for a good time. The whole place is like a part of Britain that has been kept in a happy bubble, and we can't wait to go back!

Very friendly, clean, comfortable Guest house located in a quite location within a few minutes of town centre and local transport.

I stayed at this small guest house in July 2008 and was very impressed with the attention to detail and how friendly the owners were.

“The whole island is great”
Reviewed 6 July 2008

This is the ideal stay at home location for people that want peace and/or have families with young children.
We used to own a property on the island and went there as often as 6 times a year. It is perfect for young children as all attractions are family friendly.
There is great variety everywhere in attractions and restaurants and pubs.
The island is easy to get around by public transport and need not be expensive if you buy the week long bus tickets. If you take your car then you will find it a relaxing place to drive as the traffic rarely gets bad. Remember to make good use of the island's tourist offices as they are a real wealth of information.
When travelling around please do not forget to visit the interior of the island as it is such a lovely place.
Our children have grown up now and we have sold our property there but we will continue to visit the island from time to time.

“What a Place!”
Reviewed 31 October 2005

A day trip was one of the best spent days my husband, grandchild and I have ever spent. The sun shone, no crowds and a delicious full English breakfast served after 15.00 hours in the Post Office in Niton. Service with a smile and a very friendly area. We will certainly return in the new year. We drove around the whole island to see what was on offer
