We did enjoy most of this trail, although some of the villages listed had no black and white buildings but perhaps just a church. Stopping to park and capture the atmosphere was difficult in a few, but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and managed to take enough photos to be memorable.

We were at staying in Weobley, one of the villages on the trail. We followed the "prescribed" route in reverse - first to Dilwyn then Eardisland, Pembridge, Kington and Eardisley.
All are interesting in their own ways but some are definitely better than others. For me the "top three" must be Weobley, Pembridge and Eardisland although I'm sure others would disagree.
The route is quite easy to follow and it is certainly a pleasant way to pass a day.

We were staying in one of the 'Black and White' villages, Pembridge, and had picked up a leaflet in Leominster Tourist Information centre, but were then offered a CD of an audio tour of the trail.
The audio tour, was OK, but we decided afterwards that we would rather have just worked from the leaflet as, at the end of each 'chapter' there were quite involved instructions about where to go before the next 'chapter' started, and these were not always easy to remember, so we went awry once or twice.
However the villages were mostly beautiful, and with some great scenery between. Our favourites were Pembridge, Eardisland (very picture postcard) and Weobley, which probably had the best selection of half-timbered houses.
One slight drawback to the trail, is that a lot of it is along major roads, which means that driving slowly to admire the view is not an option as, not unreasonably, a lot of locals and through traffic just want to drive at or near the speed limit to get to where they are going.

A very useful leaflet from "Visit Herefordshire" provides a guided tour around the villages and useful notes about various features. Its easy to follow and helps ensure that you don't miss anything worthwhile. Allow plenty of time - it is easy to spend a day following the trail and well worth it.

This trail starts in Leominster, Herefordshire's largest market town. As well as the many attractive villages - our favourites were Weobley and Pembridge - there are suggested short side trips to places of interest. However, don't bother with Dunkertons Cider. Production has been moved to Cheltenham and ringing the shop doorbell as instructed provoked no response.
Plenty of opportunities for refreshment along the way.
