“A delighful place yto stay”

I needed a nice, fairly secluded place with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. It was also important to be close to Winchester (1 stop on the train from Shawford station, which is a short walk from Down House!) for me to indulge my interests in medieval history.. Down House was perfect and with a lovely pub 3 minutes walk away, things could not have been better. Add in Sue, the owner who could not have been more helpful in arranging the logistics of the stay and you have the ideal getaway.. Stay here-you'll love it!

We booked this cottage to be near our daughter & family. It was in a perfect position for us, walking distance to their house, station, pub and bus route.
We were very comfortable in our huge bed, rooms were all a good size & tastefully decorated.
Great to park the car off the street.
We will return very soon.

“Pretty cottage in a beautiful location...”
Reviewed 30 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Down House Cottage is in a fantastic and very pretty location, with Shawford station and a friendly country pub just a couple of minutes walk away. Sue made us feel very welcome and the cottage was pretty and comfortable, with all you might need for a weekend away. Sue's tips for restaurants and places to eat was very helpful, and as the cottage is very close the to station, any trips to Winchester were easy, which meant we didn't have to take the car each time.
Shawford itself is small but very picturesque, with the pretty village of Twyford very close by.
The cottage itself is well laid out with plenty of space, a lovely shower room, wooden floorboards, log burner and a seperate kitchen. There is a cute garden area outside for guests use and parking. All in all a lovely place for a weekend away.

“A lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 21 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

This is a clean and comfortable property in a pretty village. Easy access to station making it possible to walk the Itchen Way in either direction and return by train. Very convenient for visiting Winchester. I can certainly recommend this property.

“peaceful, good location but attached.”

To start the owner of the property was lovely, very welcoming and helped us with any of our queries. The location is peaceful and isolated but close to the train station and bus stops so you can get to places of interest fairly easy and I imagine even easier if you drive. There is a store about ten to fifteen minutes walk up the road, where you can buy essentials and more. There is also a nice pub near by with a garden area that serves food till late. My only issue was that I didn't realise the cottage is attached to the main house so me being a very polite and shy felt the need to be extra quiet. Other than that is a beautiful place with great scenery such as handsome trees and breath taking rivers. Takes you right out of the madness that is everyday city life.
