“Unhelpful, Dated and Noisy”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

I wanted a cheap weekend getaway to see a show...This is FAR from what I got.
I had the hotel booked for over 2 weeks and was very excited but on arrival I was informed about a 50 security deposit that would NOT be removed from my account unless I was to use it or cause any damage. After asking again if the money would NOT be removed from my account the staff confirmed it would NOT. I walked into town and upon checking my balance, They had in fact taken the money out of my account leaving my spending money budget to a minimum. I immediately returned to the hotel to talk to the staff. They simply told me that there was nothing I could do, They were very unhelpful and rude. We had just £10 between two of us. Because of this we went to the show hungry and disheartened, Only being able to have tap water throughout. They not only ruined our stay there but our entire weekend. I have been through my entire confirmation email and the website and cannot find anything pre warning you of this fee. The rooms are dated and loud, The staff do not care unless you are putting money over the counter. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER be using the holiday inn again. I work for a global company that travel extremely often and I will make sure they will no longer use these services. TOTAL RIP OFF.

Room Tip: Yes...Stay at a room in a completely different hotel. Ibis is cheaper, Closer to town and nicer say...

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us. I am very sorry about the situation you encountered with the £50 security deposit which was taken on arrival. This is a company policy & the money is not removed from your account, it is earmarked but it is most unfortunate that it did not allow you to have funds to spend when you were out at the theatre.
I can assure you that myself & the team do care very much about looking after all of our customers & again offer my sincere apologies.

Visited this hotel in March for 1 night. Nothing special but then again its a Holiday Inn so you know what your paying for. Having said that the hotel is very conviniently located and comfortable. Upon arrival we were promplty checked in with no complications. The lobby is very open with a nice bar/restaurant area. The rooms are basic, clean, and comfortable. Everything was working fine and had coffee/tea station in the room which was nice. A bonus was a nice view of the harbour. Although the bathrooom is very simple and not the most up to date in the world it was also clean (no mold or disgusting bits in between the tiling) and the shower pressure was really good. Cant complain for a one nights stay.

I stayed at this hotel on business and found it to be up to the usual standard delivered by this chain. The food was well cooked and presented and the staff helpful and friendly.
This hotel has a great location, close to the River Test and right next to the cruise ship departure points and the Red Funnel to the Isle of Wight. The view that I had from my room included the old city walls and a view down river that took in harbours and all the shipping.
The town centre is within walking distance and there is a retail and leisure area quite close.

Room Tip: The higher up you are the better the view

Stayed 16th March for 2 nights. Ideally placed for those joining a cruise ship. Also adjacent to the West Quay Shopping Centre. Usual holiday inn breakfast, fruit, cereals, bacon etc. and fresh croissants. Restaurant ok as well as downstairs lounge. Stayed in one night and found drinks relatively expensive but this applies in most hotels. Stayed on the 7th floor, smelt musty and whilst bedroom was adequate, bathroom and chairs in need of replacement. Rumour that the hotel will eventually be replaced by a new building which would explain why upstairs was not as nice as the ground floor. For what we paid, value for money.

Thank you for your feedback. I am very pleased that you found the hotel to be value for money.
Our location is very good in relation to West Quay shopping centre & the cruise departure terminals. I have asked my housekeeper to address any smells on the 7th Floor
