They upgraded us to ocean free free of charge. Very nice! The location is ideal and there are restaurants and pubs nearby. Only complaint would be the shower - the curtain was too tight but it was hot so can’t complain.

Have stayed here a few times over many years and today has been OK. However, this year was a real contrast. The reception guy when we arrived was very engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. Came back in the evening and the bar staff were completely opposite, I have seen friendlier rottweiler on heat. Bar staff not engaging at all, why were we asking for bar drinks at 9.45?
A passing guest came in at 10.55. Said 'not very nice out there ' re very wet and windy weather outside. Told, sorry can't serve you. Reason. Bar closes at 11.00 and only open for residents after this time. The guy was wet, a reasonable guy, alone, senior in age and clearly wanted a bar drink before moving on. It was still 10.55 and nobody else around in the bar other than my wife and I. Really felt uncomfortable, and followed the guy out after a few mins to invite in him in and have a drink with us but had gone. Sorry guys but this really is not acceptable. Not good customer service whichever way you look at it. Antonio, you did not offend us but clearly showed a lack of humility, customer care and marketing thinking. Shame. I like to think my reviews are balanced and objective, this is a good hotel but there are clearly a few employees that need to readjust their approach to customers and their needs.

Attended Lions Convention & stayed for 4 days. Overall, considering this is a 3 star hotel, our stay was very good. We had a sea view room facing the pier, it was a bit noisy (nightclubs nearby) as we had the window open as the room was very hot, but it didn't really bother us. The room was very spacious, bed & pillows comfy & plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. The bathroom was small, shower cubicle only (not a problem for us) but it was on the small side, so for those of us who are tall or on the large side it was a bit of a challenge!! The food we had over the 4 days was very good, no complaints from us or most of the other 150 or so members attending the convention. Yes, the hotel is old, it is in need of refurbishment in places, it's creaky, a bit hot but it has a lovely feel to it, I especially like the history of the hotel and the naval theme. I thought it was good value for money, the staff were very helpful (especially Davina and Paul, thanks) & nothing was too much trouble - we will be back for a weekend to see the ships & take in the sights as we didn't have time this stay.

We revisited this traditional beach front hotel and we're impressed by the range of refurbishments both inside and out. Our room was spacious with a magnificent view of the sea and pier. A re-tiled bathroom with a full range of toiletries and good quality fluffy towels, built-in hairdryer and efficient shower added to the comfort. As ever, all staff were welcoming and helpful. A super mini-break which we will repeat.

As master of my lodge I had the pleasure of arranging a ladies night our lodge had never gone away for a weekend, after lots of visiting hotels to choose the one we felt happy with, we went to the Royal Beach. From the moment we arrived we felt very happy with the care and attention we received, throughout the booking process nothing was too much trouble, the weekend duly arrived and everything was first class from everyone checking in, quality of accommodation, food. The feed back I have received from all my guest has been fantastic. Special thanks to all the staff, for the high standard of service we all received
