“oldy worldy charm, but pricey”
Reviewed 27 August 2012

this is a truly authentic old hotel in the heart of the cotswolds in England. To the extent that the warped floorboards may make you feel slightly drunk as you list and roll around on them walking around! The doorframes are also quite low too so mind your head!
Stayed here with 2 girlfriends. I shared a twin room with one.
The rooms are nice - quirky with some personality. The bathrooms are well appointed and modern and beds are comfortable. The staff were very friendly, but maybe not the best trained on customer service - at times run off their feet at breakfast.
Complaints would be that can be noisy outside windows which are single-paned. There aren't much toiletries on offer, so bring your own. Would also say that rooms are relatively pricey in my opinion, but costwolds aren't cheap!
Definitely the authentic experience!

Paid for a more expensive Cottage Room and was left feeling very disappointed. The room is on two levels, both levels are extremely(!) tight for space. That I could put up with but we had to put up with Staff sitting just outside the room chatting and smoking. Then in the morning the staff are shuffling around outside with deliveries and rubbish. Breakfast, we chose the Continental option, nothing wrong but extremely stingy with the cereal, cold toast and poor choice. The lighting in the room is terrible, my partner had to use a torch to see to apply her make-up. The bathroom has nowhere to put anything - except on the floor. Car parking, 10 room but only 7 hidden away car parking spaces. Otherwise its Tesco's on the edge of town. For the price charged they really need to sharpen up on the details.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the Cottage rooms, unless you value the easier access and a split level with...

Well, where do I start!!

Parking that is near impossible to find if you don't call up and ask where it is, not signposted or anything. We were checked in a hurry and checked out by the cleaner? Not an issue, but not very professional.

The room itself was quaint enough, very small however, again, not so much of an issue. But the floor was covered in stains and hairs. I didnt feel comfortable walking around in the room without shoes on! The bathroom floor was filthy! Clearly not mopped as the bath may was filthy underneath! When we arrived there were stains in the toilet! The towels smelt like they had been dipped in chip fat before being put in the room! One of them smelt so bad we had to lock it in a cupboard! Cobwebs literally everywhere, stains on the walls. The room itself was horribly musty and had several different smells, stale cigarettes, wet dog and bins. (the pubs bins were directly outside the room, making a very pleasant view from the bedroom window). The wifi was poor and practically non existent. The bathroom was ridiculously tiny, no space for toiletries. There was a major lack of mirrors, I think at least one full length mirror is necessary in any hotel.

Not worth £100 a night, never again. Please don't make the same mistake we did!!

Room Tip: Book another hotel

We paid a reduced rates as late room bookings. We would have hated to pay the full price. The rooms have been refurbished but no wardrobes and only 3 hangers on a hook. The rooms were clean

The cottages are in the back yard overlooking the bins.

The breakfast was just ok . The main problem was the attitude of a couple of members of staff

It is in the main square which is good

We stayed in a very pretty small cottage. Clean quaint and great for a short stay. Staff all lovely breakfast good. Would stay here again.
Pros clean, fab location, very welcoming staff.
Cons low ceiling height in cottage and no hanging space for longer stays.

Room Tip: We stayed in 'mates rates' low ceiling height but in a quite court yard type setting. Toile...
