We really couldn’t have asked for a better place to plan a catch up with friends. The house was so warm and welcoming, it easily fit the 8 adults plus 6 kids and having such large rooms and beautiful gardens was absolutely perfect.
It felt like a real home from home and we all came away feeling so priveliged to have stayed in what was clearly a cherished family home for many years.
We really can’t thank the Varty family enough for opening this home up to grateful guests. I hope all those in the years to come that visit feel the same sense of warmth and love that the house has to offer.
From the bottom of our hearts thank you for making this weekend amazing. We will carry the memories forever.
We had the privilege of staying in Horsepools House for a long weekend in May. We were in the area to attend a family wedding but decided to have the long bank holiday weekend with the whole family. Horsepools House was just the perfect place. Not only did it sleep our family of 10 perfectly, but the whole atmosphere in the house was just wonderful and exactly what we had hoped for. A home away from home where we all felt we could relax and unwind. The house itself has lots of space, the furnishings (many original Chinese) are beautiful, and the rooms perfectly suited to the different uses, from the great formal dining room with views over the garden, to the stylish living room right down to the cosy library, although the slightly OCD-types in our family were desperate to catalogue and reorganise the fabulous collection of books! The bedrooms too are excellent with comfortable beds and plenty of bathroom/shower facilities and we spent long mornings having leisurely breakfasts in the kitchen. The garden with views across to Painswick Church in the distance was wonderful for playing games and for sitting out in the late sun sipping the odd glass or two. All in all, we adored this house and are fully resolved to come back for a longer period in the future. Thank you to Paul for the warm and efficient contact and useful information and to Gabor for being so helpful in getting us settled. We'll definitely be returning!
I can't fault this property, my 7 friends and I travelled from all over the country and thanks to the helpful directions from the owner all of us found our way to the property despite some local road closures. Gabor the caretaker met me as arranged and showed me round and helped organise the parking, we knew he was there if we needed him but was not intrusive.
The house is stunning as are the gardens and we enjoyed sitting round the kitchen table in front of the AGA.
All the beds were comfortable and the house was clean and well equipped with everything we could possibly need.
We had a meal out at the Edgemoor Inn which was a short walk along the main road and also walked into Painswick but mostly we just enjoyed each other's company in this beautiful house.
I can't give enough praise for this wonderful house and it's history. The house and grounds are beautiful. Yes, the decor is dated but it adds to the experience. We got an Ocado delivery on the first night and ate in both nights. There is a fire, which we sat in front of playing Articulate. The house is spacious so we didn't get under each other's feet! There's lots of room for parking (we had 4 cards). There's a book detailing the history of the house, which is really interesting.
There was 9 of us (all very different personalities) and everyone loved the house and stay so thank you!
Communication before and after the stay is good and friendly.
We used the garden for an Easter egg hunt so if you're lucky, there may still be one or two around... ;)
It was a pleasure staying at Horsepools. The owner, Paul, was very kind and obliging when we asked if we could rent the house at the last minute and bring our cat with us. The house is very big with a spacious open garden. There's plenty of bedrooms and two of them are ensuite, the shared 'family bathroom' though, is small and the shower is not very powerful. The house is next to a busy main road, however it's somehow peaceful and quiet. We all slept very well. We stayed at Horsepools right before the biggest snowfall in years and it was bitterly cold outside, but not in the house. The heating works well and it was nice and warm. Our daughters were delighted to take over the study in order to revise for their exams, the table was big enough for both of them and had everything they needed, glue sticks, scissors, pens and more! Unfortunately Gabor couldn't make the printer work, but that would be splitting hairs! All in all we had a wonderful time, it would've been perfect though, if Gabor had left perhaps a pint of milk and some biscuits in the kitchen before our arrival. There were tea bags in the cupboard but that was it. We've booked over a dozen houses with trip advisor/ holiday lettings over the years, in Britain and abroad and we've always been welcomed with the essentials like milk, tea, biscuits, etc. We were very tired when we arrived after a long drive and a cup of tea was badly needed, perhaps next time? Thank you Paul for a great stay.
