A great day out, even for seasoned race-goers. Like us, if you've not been, go at least once; it's special for the Irish contingent who love their racing (and their Guinness). Parking is quite easy and, booked in advance, quite close to the entrance. Roads in and out of the course do become VERY congested though! Go early!
The new facilities - Princess Royal Stand and Parade Ring give brilliant views for everyone. Catering is curiously biased away from early "coffee and Danish" lovers like us who have driven many miles only to find that there's as much space at the serveries given over to pie and mash at 10.45am as for coffees and pastries? Result? Long queues our side, many bored looking servers on the other! Get your act together Jockey Club! Find caterers who know about customer service and flows!

We attended the festival on the Friday for the gold cup and went to the best mate enclosure. Access was easy and there were minimal queues.
You were not allowed to bring any food or drink into the ground so you were forced to queue and pay extortionate prices.
The views from the stand were good and there were plenty of bookies to bet with. I didn't buy any alcohol but I noticed people were not allowed into the stand or in front with a drink. This meant the majority of the crowd were behind the stand. I understand alcohol can cause issues but this seemed to antagonise people and made it difficult to moved behind the stand. I have attended the grand national, the king George, the derby and many other race courses and have never known this rule or seem problems.
The toilet facilities were poor, there was always large queues and so many people were forced to find other areas.
Cheltenham is a nice course and good day out but personally Ive had better days at the other major events I've attended.

This is the second year my hubby and I have gone to the festival (Tuesday and Wednesday this year).

Great atmosphere and great day (or two) out, there is lots to do, not just watching the racing. You can shop and also play some mad racing games. You can have a drink and also attend a book signing !!

There are also places inside to warm up or stay out of the rain, although it would benefit for more seating when you are feeling weary.

I have been going to the Cheltenham Festival ever year since 1996.And although I am a massive horseracing fan this is a must do event. It as slowly got bigger and more glamorous each year.I have been a few times on the Friday which is gold cup day and the busiest so not so comfortable for getting around, getting a drink and placing your bets but saying that there are plenty of places to do this so its not that much of a problem.
The Best mate enclosure is the cheapest during the festival but I`d also say its the best!!
The sun sponsored tent between races is rocking and the place list from the dj is spot on.
Afew minus points are the cue for toilets can get very big and if your using a cashpoint on site expect to be charged a few quid for doing so.

Cheltenham race course was buzzing with excitement when we attended the festival, it was a great day out and the beer wasn't too expensive!
