“New year to remember”

4 couples stayed for New Year at Welcome Cottage, it exceeded our expectations, we had read the reviews of post it notes and not enough kitchen utensils and because we were cooking a New Years dinner had brought serving dishes carving knives etc, No need, the cottage is exceptionally well equipped, we wanted for nothing the cottage had even been decorated for Christmas which was lovely, notes around the house are for the benefit of the guest, how to use the fires/ heating/ recycling.
Would not hesitate to recommend .

Thank you for your lovely review. Your warm words are valued and we also thank the others in your party who sent us a very complimentary text. We appreciate your clarifying for future guests that the notices referred to in a previous review are mainly to facilitate the easy operation of ovens, microwaves, washer, dryer, tvs, dvd players, fires, etc. and to clarify rubbish disposal. We are pleased too that you found the kitchen to be perfectly well-equipped to host your New Year's celebration. If anything is ever found wanting in that respect a call to us or the caretaker will always be responded to immediately. We would love to welcome you back to the cottage at some time in the future.

“Fantastic stay in a beautiful house!”
Reviewed 30 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This is now our second visit to Bourton on the Water and it certainly didn't disappoint! Welcome Cottage is an absolute delight, can not fault it. The house is in a perfect location, very short walk from the local shops, pubs and restaurants. Thank you David & Margaret for yet another lovely stay.

“Lovely cottage, great location”

We had a great stay as a group of nine ladies celebrating a special birthday.

The cottage itself is beautiful, it was nicely decorated and in good all round condition. The communal space was ample with lots of different places to relax. The table sat nine no problem. The bedrooms were spacious for a cottage, the showers were good and beds comfy. TV s in all rooms an added bonus. Plenty of car parking space .

The best thing about the cottage really though is the location. It's just a few minutes walk into Bourton and it's a good base to visit the surrounding area.

There were only a couple of things we felt could've been better. The kitchen needed a few more cooking utensils ( no wooden spoons ! ) , more tea towels, more crockery and cutlery (you couldn't have served a three course meal for nine without having to wash up between courses). It would also have been handy to have a hand towel as well as a bath towel for each guest.

The only other thing was all the notes pinned up around the cottage about all the do's and don'ts . Of course one needs info about the recycling and how things work etc but all the stuff about keeping everything clean and in its place to save work for the housekeeper was a little much. We paid over £1300 for the weekend and I really don't expect to have to clean and mop everything up before I leave, tidy yes, clean no. If your housekeeper doesn't like cleaning I suggest you find one that does.

All in all we had a lovely, memorable weekend and I would definitely recommend to anyone.

We are very sorry if you felt there was an expectation that you had to clean the cottage before you left. That is not our intention at all. The notice regarding the caretaker and her work is merely asking people to be considerate to her as it is a large cottage to prepare and it particularly helps if, for instance, kitchen items are put back in the cupboards rather than leaving the washing up for her to do. On some - thankfully rare- occasions, she has faced a big mess to sort out before she starts her work.
We are sorry too if you felt the kitchenware was not adequate for your needs. This has not been brought to our attention before. We provide 2 tea towels and place settings of cutlery, crockery(dinner plates, tea plates, bowls, glass dishes, wine glasses, beer glasses, drinking glasses) for 14 people and the cottage sleeps 12 so we thought this was sufficient.
Otherwise we thank you very much for the many positive comments you made about the cottage and that you would recommend us.

“Comfortable, spacious house in a perfect location.”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We couldn't have been more pleased with Welcome Cottage. It's very spacious (allowing privacy when desired) and comfortable. We spent a great deal of time in the conservatory, which was a natural place to congregate. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms were lovely (especially liked the beams) and the living room provided a cozy escape in which to read a book or check email. The cottage's location in the village is perfect: a 3 minute walk from the center of town, it retains a sense of privacy while accommodating my elderly parents (who were able to walk to various pubs and tea rooms throughout the week). For those who enjoy walking, there are numerous trails to other local villages (my favorite part of the holiday was strolling to a new village, enjoying the countryside). All in all, the holiday exceeded my expectations and Welcome Cottage was a large part of that.
