My Fiancee, and I decided to have a lovely night away in the Cotswolds. Which was ruined basicly. To start with the Lounge Bar advertised on Booking.com is not what you get when you get there.
The photo on Booking.com shows a very cozy lit fire, with lovely mirror and wall lights, a carpet and cozy relaxing seating. But what we got was totally different..... Carpetless floor no wall lights and no cozy seating a horrible bare cold room.
We then had to find somewhere else to go as the manager wasnt available to speak to us.
So £145 with no Breakfast is a bit steep. We both had a terrible sleep, we were in Room 2 be aware. The bed is a disgrace, the mattress wants throwing out, our backs were in agonny the next day plus the fact we never slept. The mattress cover after further inspection in the morning, im sorry to say was covered in well lets say heavily soiled ! The room was not clean dust everywhere under the bed on the bed and on the lamp shade, appauling. However I did get a full refund and and an appology they said that this should not have happened. No it shouldnt happen, but it did and it has been happening for some time ! That level of filth and lack off cleaning doesnt happen over night. Also im not interested that its under new management. There is no excuse.

After walking past and looking at the menu outside and a few meals taking my fancy, I decided to book a table for 2 at 7pm. Called up and made a reservation no problem.

The bar and decor was nice and clean, however when handed the menu, the meals that appear on their menu board outside were in fact not on the menu presented. The menu was quite limited and quite basic in what it offered so much so we ordered 3 pizzas. Judging by the price at £11 - £13 I was hoping they would be authentic tasting and delicious. Drinks were brought out shortly after we had ordered and we waited around 15 minutes for the pizzas to be put on the table, all good so far.
The pizza's however were incredibly disappointing, bland and flavourless. Almost like they had thrown some tomato puree on what I'm still wondering was either a shop bought base or a poor attempt at pizza artisan baking gone wrong, as they were dense, hard and chewy. The toppings were dry and there was no seasoning to even add the slightest of taste.
Once we had quite clearly finished (putting plates to the side and making it rather obvious) We waited 25 minutes whilst the waiting staff attended to one of the three other family's dining in the same room, before I decided the only way out before midnight was to go to the bar and ask for the bill myself. Which, not to my surprise took a further 6 minutes to turn up, and then a further minute as he had to go and get the card machine.

All in all, would not recommend due to items on menu board not existing, poor choice of food which was bland and flavourless, all topped off with terrible service and tourist prices.
The good points were the decor was nice, it seemed clean and when I did manage to spend some valuable time with their waiting team they seemed polite.

In hindsight, I wish when we realised what we wanted from the menu board was not in fact on the menu (we checked on the way out and there was at least half a dozen meals on there that you could not actually order) to of gotten up and gone some where else. Unfortunately being overly polite we stuck it out and I'm now £50 poorer for the privilege.

Oh dear. From the outside this is such a gorgeous place and they've done a reasonable job on the interior too. But there's no substance behind the facade I'm afraid.

The waitress was very friendly, once we found her. We ordered at 7.30pm and the food arrived at 8.20pm. The neighbouring table arrived and ordered after us but got served before. Always guaranteed to annoy.

The food which arrived was not as ordered (although you have to have a long memory to remember by the time it comes). Bok choi was replaced, unannounced, with broccoli which meant the vanilla and star anise jus was now rather incongruous. My duck had clearly been waiting for my husband's goulash so was tepid at best. Pistachios on the dessert were replaced, also unannounced until it arrived in front of me, with hazelnuts, to which I am allergic.

I suppose I might have had a clue as to the standard to expect from the misspelt and grammatically incorrect menu, brochure and website. If you cut corners on marketing materials for a new launch, you're off to a bad start. Obviously I had time to proofread the whole thing while I was waiting.

In short, never judge a book by its cover. If they carry on like this, they'll be short of those too.

A 600 year old building with great character and atmosphere. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We would highly recommend this place to eat.
