“Fantastic stay in stylish luxury, situated in a quiet, rural, corner of England”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The property is modern, carefully planned and is extremely well-appointed. The owners have a wonderful attention to detail and there are many thoughtful touches - in particular the welcome basket of groceries and essentials. The location is unspoilt and will allow you to properly unwind and enjoy a great holiday.

“Peace & Quiet in the Country”
Reviewed 1 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This is a true home from home holiday, with everything you could possible want, Sally provided with a substantial hamper of provisions, which came in very useful over the first couple of days. The accommodation is spacious and first class with a small private garden exclusive to Spindle, which is not overlooked and faces the sun as it sets in the evening. The great thing is about Stockhurst is that it is down the bottom of a quiet lane so relaxing in a quiet location is all but guaranteed.

Robert and Sally are wonderfully friendly people with a vast amount of local knowledge and recommendations which we found to be very useful, especially the recommendations for eating out and places to visit.

You are less than 10min's from Rye a must see ancient town and the location for the remake of Mapp & Lucia for the BBC (they were filming in the Church when we visited), Rye harbour makes for an invigorating walk through the Nature reserve and the sand/shingle beach. Winchelsea is another nice place to visit with the rugged beach at Pett Level. Be warned the cliffs are fairly dramatic there, and also dangerous as there was a cliff collapse whilst we were on the beach.

Other good place to visit, Beachy Head / Birling gap just West of Eastbourne to see some dramatic white cliff vistas whilst about an hour away from spindle IMHO well worth the effort on a nice day(Very busy at the weekend).

Spindle is an excellent place to stay as there are so many things to do around the area including a good variety of National Trust places which would occupy many days of a holiday if you were to visit them all. To top it all the countryside can be stunning with the rolling downs dotted with small copses and beautiful villages. i would thoroughly recommend both Stockhurst and East Sussex for a relaxing break.

“Comfortable accommodation Near Rye”
Reviewed 21 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

I stayed here for three nights which is the minimum stay. I stayed in the smaller of the two cottages which was spacious and more than big enough for me. The bedroom is large and contains two single and has good space for storing clothes. The bathroom and kitchen are, as with the rest of the interior, brand new and contains all that you need for a short or a long stay. The living room has a TV, comfortable sofas and books to read. There is outside sitting area overlooking a garden and the edge of the woods. The cottages are in a nice and quiet location. There is a charming country pub some five-ten minutes away by foot and several more within driving or cycling distance. The location is great for exploring East Sussex and handy for Rye, Hastings, Battle which all are some 10-20 minutes away by car. Beckley woods is a great area to explore on foot or by bike. There is plenty of wildlife and birds.

“Lovely home away from home”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Just spent the Easter weekend at Spindle cottage and what a perfect place to go and escape to. Set in beautiful countryside and located in the grounds of the main house we were met by the owners Bob and Sally when we arrived. Friendly and helpful Sally kindly showed us round and then left us with the most generous welcome pack I have ever seen. The cottage was immaculate and we were lucky enough to enjoy the private garden area and patio when the sun was shining. From the door of the cottage we had some walks through very quiet country roads and a short drive took us to the supermarket. The pretty town of Rye is only a 10minute drive away and there were plenty of good options for restaurants/pubs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we only wish it could have been longer.
