“Fantastic weekend all round!”
Reviewed 2 June 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Colson House for a long weekend in May as we both needed a break from work and family. The weather was fine, if breezy, and Brighton was as great as ever.

The Colson House was brilliant, our host Eamon was very friendly and his humour while serving breakfast really set us up for the day. We stayed in the Clark Gable room with four poster bed and plenty of space to relax.

The room was immaculately clean as was the bedding, not a sign of dust anywhere. It is obvious the owners treat the place as well as their own home.

It was my partner's irst visit to Brighton, she loved it and the Colson House. We will definitely be back!

This was a repeat visit to Colson House after we visited for the first time two years ago. The property is very well located close to the sea and ten minutes walk from the town centre and the pier.

The welcome was as warm as last time and Eamon in charge of the breakfast service was as cheery as ever.

The room (Judy Garland) was compact and clean but as with the rest of the property is starting to look a bit tired and in need of redecoration. The mattress was ultra soft and my fiancée and I had a couple of night’s disturbed sleep.

The breakfast was tasty but maybe the small plates and spoonful of beans is a sign of tougher economic times.

This is a grand building and understandably expensive to maintain andcould do with sprucing up as it does suffer from less kerb appeal than its competitors.

So all in all still worth a visit but needing some reinvigoration.

Room Tip: Clark Gable is a large room

We stayed in the Bette Davis room - thats the one with the large balcony which was great to relax on - no views except of the comings and goings of Upper Rock Gardens. The room was confortable, breakfast was lovely as were the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Also its great to have dvd player in your room. We had a fabulous time and will be returning soon.

We stayed at Colson House over the New Year Period and for us it was a real treat. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming. They helped us out with parking and told us all about the surrounding area with its bars and restaurants. Our room (Marilyn Monroe) was spotless and a joy to be in with great facilities and lovely fluffy towels. Our breakfast each morning was freshly cooked and we found we did not need lunch as it really set us up for our days of shopping and sightseeing . In our opinion Colson House is perfect in every way and we have already booked again for Easter and requested the Bette Davis room.
